Smith and Wollensky: the best NY tradition
This over 30 years old steakhouse deserves its fame; it's quite big and could be very noisy but it worth definetely a visit. Unless you a vegeterian or you are on a diet, of couse. Ambiente is rather elegant (white table cloth, double glass) but not so intimate (tables are very close; we had Italians both on our right and on our left side so we could have shared a coversation in Italian, if we wished). I woud not reccomend it for a romantic date but for every other occasions you might be in NYC. Meat pieces look really big and taste wonderfully. Desserts are also fantastic, but share the portion, unless you are still hungry after eating such a big piece of meat.
Smith & Wollensky: Upscale and more than Steaks
The concept was started by Art Stillman, founder of TGI Friday's. It sounds like an old named tradition, but really is quite new. The prices will shock you, but they are presenting the "best steaks around". They can get to you starting at $25 and going uppp. A chicken salad is more reasonable at around $12 or so.
Favorite Dish: Did not try enought to find out.
Smith & Wollensky: Best steak ever
Their Cajun Rib eye was the best steak I ever ate. As for the price. True, it is expensive but I'll better pay dear for an excellent steak than pay cheap for an piece of meat I wont enjoy.
Favorite Dish: Marinated Cajun Ribeye. Very generous piece of meat. The marinated steak was made for perfection. Crispy and spicy from the outside, and tender inside. It was still warm after half a hour on the plate. (it took me half a hour to finish this huge steak).
Smith and Wollensky: Surf and Turf for two
If you are into steaks and, maybe, also into lobster (and you are, preferrably. on an expenses-account) then Smith and Wollensky`s is the right place for you !
They serve incredibly soft steaks, cooked after their own special recipe (you can download the dressing from their HP !), excellent starters , fine salads and great soups.
Don`t even try to finish the steak on your plate (let alone the "Turf") after having ordered their unparalelled "split peas soup" and a "Wollensky-Salad".
My advice: in a company of two ONE soup plus ONE salad plus ONE steak (as big as in B.Aires !) will do nicely; don`t be too shy to share, you`ll have to pay the price anyway !
Last time I was there with a friend and his wife we even asked for a "doggy pack", we finished next morning for breakfast !

Smith and Wollensky: Smith and Wollensky - A Cut Above the Rest
This place is the elite of the elite in the fine dining arena. This is not exactly a place to hang out and relax after work, but more of a place to take your most important business clients, where to take your boss and his/her family out to dinner, special occasions, etc. Unlike many of my other restaurant tips which are typically characterized by its warm friendliness, a cozy place to dine with friends and such, Smith and Wollensky's is a place to sit up, put a napkin on your lap and use multiple utensils. Actually, it's more of 'my kind of place' than the others. I consider dining an event and Smith and Wollensky's truly delivers.
The steak is superb, best cuts in Manhattan. But it's the seafood appetizer that REALLY gets you going. I ordered it with my friends once and I couldn't see my boyfriend who was sitting on the other side of it, it was THAT big. It had fresh clams, oysters, lobster claws, shrimp cocktail and more. It was absolutely amazing, but granted, a couple hundred dollars. If you have the resources, definitely check out Smith and Wollenskys.
Smith & Wollensky: Upmarket Steak and Chop House
An excellent choice for enormous steaks and ribs. It always seems busy, whether it be the locals after work corporate types taking clients out for dinner or just tourists like myself.
Expect to pay a little bit more than average, but you can't knock the food, the service or the atmosphere.
Also check out the Wollensky Grill, which is attached to the main restaurant. This offers a smaller version of the main menu in a more relaxed informal atmosphere. Don't worry you can still order the steaks from off the menu.
Favorite Dish: Has to be the beautiful steaks. Although the ribs were good aswell. Had the chocolate cake to share as dessert.

Smith & Wollensky Steak House: Super Expensive Steak House - But Great
This restaurant is everything you would imagine a steak house to be in New York City. Decor is nice, waiters are helpful, tables are big, food is delicious and its super expensive.
We had a great time with a bunch of our friends filing up on steaks grilled to perfection, not too greasy steak fries, and a multitude of al la carte side dishes like creamed spinach and onion rings. Fantastic wine selection, but I'm sure you're not surprised.
Desserts were nice too, all types and sinfully delicious.
But too many visits here and it will certainly break the bank. Too rich for my blood.

Smith & Wollensky - An American Steak House
Great classic steakhouse without a lot of 'fluff'. Service was superb and the food was wonderful.
Favorite Dish: A steak as big as my head! And the incredible hash browned potatoes - good stuff!
