    What an amazing restaurant/lounge. I would have to describe the food as nuovo french/asian/ecclectic as the choices were so varied!!

    Ro choose this restaurant for her Birthday Bash Dinner and she couldn't have choosen a better location. The food was amazing and it seemed like it kept on coming. She choose a prix fix with an assortment of appettizers that were all so yummy!!

    The service was impeccable and the meals even better, my only complain would be that we had a 9:30 pm dinner reservation and our table wasn't ready to well past 10:00, during this time we waited upstairs in their lounge/bar!!

    Favorite Dish: Ro choose a prix fix menu which was printed out on a menu card...everything on the menu was served! Will be back with a full list :)

    Staying in a different area of NYC this trip, I tried out a couple of new places; Stanton Social and Morimoto. The bartender at Stanton was a doll and concocted several drinks for me including The Social Tea (Ketel One Citron, gunpowder green tea and orange-honey marmalade), Strawberry Fields ( Grey Goose Citron, fresh strawberries muddled with lemon-lime syrup, fresh lemon juice and a Riesling floater), and my person favorite, The Basil-Lime Gimlet (Belvedere Vodka, muddled basil leaves, lemon syrup and fresh lime juice.) If you are hungry, I would highly recommend the Grilled Cheese Slider. The size of a golf ball, the mini-sandwich is Jasper Hills Farms Cheddar, house cured jalapeno bacon, fried green tomatoes and lemon aioli.

    The Stanton Social: Zagat Favourite

    Went with high hopes as Stanton Social have received an almost unprecedented 29 out of 30 for decor from Zagat. Restaurant is a lot smaller than I imagined, occupying a standard shop frontage in the Lower East side. Downstairs is the restaurant, upstairs a very popular Japanese influenced bar, although Im not too sure what the draw is as Manhattan (and this area especially) has many much better drinking spaces. Bar was packed and had a much livelier vibe than the restaurant. Quite a young party crowd as well, so if youre early 20s and on the pull, this place will be worth a stop.

    Neither area warranted the butt-munching Zagat rating so I suspect some insider influence may be at play.

    Favorite Dish: Food is served tapas style and comes out as and when the kitchen is ready, so be prepared to share. Started off well with the Kobe beef burgers, pulled pork sandwiches and lobster rolls - all miniaturised versions of US standards. Can only remember one main course, the meatballs. Poor ingredients sloppily thrown together in a hurry. Tasted and had the texture of cheap tinned ones. As a bar its obviously working, but the restaurant isnt the scene it thinks it is.

    Top choice for a 21st birthday. Go elsewhere to be dazzled by food.

    Spotted Pig: A gastropub in New York (not "old" York)!

    If you're a fan of British gastro pubs, this is the place for you. This is not surprising as the restaurant - or gastro pub - is a brainchild of British expat-chef April Bloomfield. I've read about the place on the net, so checked it out one lunchtime while wandering around Greenwich Village.

    I had a late breakfast, so ordered starter dish - pork rillette - hoping it was light. I was so wrong - the rillette was so fatty and piggy (look at the thick layer of fat covering the dish in the picture!). It tasted so good, powerfully seasoned and great flavors, but this dish meant to be shared with other brave souls. The mustard and cornichon pickles on the side were meant to be there to cut the fat and temper the fatty taste.

    With the huge fatty aftertaste on my mouth, which the Capt Lawrence pale was unable to neutralize, I had to have something sweet. The waiter's recommendation was banoffee, and it was an OMG experience.
