This place looked kind of modern eclectic. They had the door open yesterday so we sat farther inside to stay cool. Lots of lunch specials. I've pretty much tried about all the restaurants in Chelsea and noticed this Thai restaurant that I havent been to...a new addtional to the many restaurants in the area.

Favorite Dish: I had the Masaman curry with tofu which was good. Lunch specials are just $7.95. The server was a little impatient but it was fine.

    Typhoon Lounge: Great affordable sushi

    by lulu_girl Written May 28, 2004 34 reviews

Ohh...I do love Typhoon. The decor is great, the wait staff is friendly, and the sushi is reasonably priced. Sure, there are expensive things on the menu, but they also have 'early bird' specials. Furthermore, they serve a wide selection of Japanese beverages (lime drinks, beer, etc...) Usually the wait isn't long if the restaurant is full, but they do have an upstairs and a downstairs which is nice. Quite roomy. Just remember that they don't open for dinner until 5:30pm.

Now, it's true that there are other, 'better' (and incredibly expensive) sushi restaurants in NYC, but I'd honestly give this restaurant an 8 out of 10. The fish is fresh, the rolls are well made and the seaweed/rice isn't so sweet that it'll distract from the fish. I hate that.

Favorite Dish: Tekka Maki; Tekkadon; fresh salad with avocado and fresh tuna slices. YUM!

Terrific food, very well priced, great staff *and* they are open until 2am on the weekends. Yes! usually the wait, if there is on, is no more than ten minutes. Quick, friendly service. The fish is, generally speaking, extremely fresh and quite tasty. Watch out for the wasabi, however, the chefs can be a little bit heavy handed (which I personally do not mind).
    smoking and non smoking available.

    Favorite Dish: Tekka Maki
    Avocado and fresh tuna salad.
    Avocado spring rolls.
