Yum Yum Bangkok: Yummy
There are a lot of restaurants on 9th Ave. north of 42nd street, We had in mind to find a Chinese place but didn't see one and didn't feel like walking too far. We spied Yum Yum, a Thai restaurant and thought that would do.
There are several buildings on the block that have the Yum Yum sign up so presumably they own them all. We went into one in the middle, a deep, narrow and darkish restaurant. We looked at the abundant menu but went for the fixed price meal. For $16.95 we got a bowl of soup, spring rolls, a little salad, a choice from a list of main dishes and we got dessert as well. The food was all absolutely superb, fresh and hot and tasty. I had the Beef Pad Thai and my dining partner had a Chicken Red Curry and we were both very satisfied. The shrimp soup to start was hot and spicy and the coconut chicken soup was smooth and mild.
The patrons at the next table had something that came wrapped in a dried fish it seemed. Unusual! Also, with any cocktails ordered over $7, which was most of them, you got a little dish with a free appetizer so we also had a couple of dumplings, too.
If you're in this neighbourhood, perhaps before or after the theatre, I would highly recommend Yum Yum Bangkok and it was one of the cheaper meals we'd had in New York.
