ABC Carpet and Home, New York City
You have to see this store to believe it. The incredibly uncreative name that it carries is so deceptive. This is one of the most fun and exciting places to go for everything imaginable from furnishing your space to furnishing your body. There are all kinds of deliciously colorful fabrics, spreads, lighting, jewelry, and so much more. The colors alone are magical.
The store is not too far from Union Square, so if you are down in that neighborhood, please just step into it and see for yourself.

Merchandise in the cavernous store is laid out like a great marketplace, a kasbah one would expect to find in a North African or Middle Eastern city like Casablanca, Marrakech or Istanbul. The mix of exotic fabrics, bold colors, art objects, antiques and decorative items from notebooks in unusual bindings to jeweled novelty boxes and odd-shaped lamps make shopping here an exciting adventure. Nothing is more dazzling than the maze of glittering chandeliers hanging from the first floor ceiling.
It's an easy place to while away an afternoon and spend a small fortune, if you don't go into the store with a plan. My objective was bedding. Although the model beds in white, tan, and pastel-colored linens were luxurious and inviting, the exquisite colors of Anna Sova Linens are compelling. Not only are these fabrics ablaze with brilliant color, but they are healthy for the environment and our bodies. Boutique Manager, Rachel Welsh gave us an education in organic fabrics. Toxins from PCP's left in clothing after washing with detergents, chemicals in bath water, and herbicides, pesticides, and carcinogens used in the growing of the cotton plant can be absorbed through our skin. Anna Sova fabrics are unique in that they contain Eco-safe dyes, no formaldehyde sizing, and is 100% SKAL certified organic from soil to fine finish.

This place is FABULOUS and one of the highlights of my trip. This is primarily a home decor store, but it is also an antique, gift, clothing and fabric store all rolled into one delicious bundle! This place is pleasure to browse.
The selection here is huge, and the store literally glitters -- chandeliers are hung en masse on most of the floors, all of which are for sale. Most of the items here are pretty high end, but there are some reasonably-priced things to buy. If you like to sew, there are great deals for as little as $2.00 to be had in the remnant bins in the basement fabric department. I purchased some fabric to take home to cover some chairs, a nice memento of my NYC trip.
ABC is mostly a store for furniture and home accents. On the first floor however they have a great selection of gadgets and great ideas for gifts. There are so many things that you can literally spend hours looking around....
