Dean and Deluca is an amazing shop, first opened in SoHo in September, 1977. There are now several stores in NYC, and more in other states of the USA. It sells kitchenware, gifts, fine foods and wine. We visited the SoHo branch, where they also have an espresso bar with a huge array of delicious looking cakes and other evil goodies.
All the fresh food items they sell look amazing - you can pick up ingredients for a meal, or buy a ready made gourmet dinner. Then there are those cakes and pastries that I mentioned earlier.....YUM! The kitchenwares are all good quality and very stylish - in fact everything in this shop is stylish.
Okay, it is not the cheapest place, but you pay for quality, right!?? I love window-shopping in the sexy shops in Chelsea and the Village. The fascinating colours, the impudent styles, the intriguing cut, the bold mix of fabrics, they are fun to look and touch, especially when I know there is no chance on earth that I would ever try them on, let alone buy them for any occasion. The adult educational materials in the back also offer some great revelations! :) Leave a Comment Theme: Other

 | | | | Nicolas: In Harlem For All The Rasta Needs | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I accompanied our son-in-law and his brother to this shop during their regular wholesale business transaction with the owner. The only two things I knew about Rasta were the hair do and Bob Marley, I didn't even know Che Guevara was considered a personage in the Rasta world. (I wondered whether his death was the reason his popularity was picked up and stayed high decades later.) I didn't know much about Rasta but what I saw was a lot. There were caps, tams, head wraps, incense, scented candles and oils, dolls, toys, books, posters, flags, bags, T-shirts, music, films, etc. and etc. My son-in-law assured me this is one of the best places for all Rasta wears and accessories. The shop has been in business for a long time and the owner and staffs are honest people who constantly give back to the community. That was all I learned on that day and I am now passing the information to you. | | | | Century 21: Century 21 | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Advertised as "New York's Best Kept Secret", it's the secret that everyone and their dog knows about. Still, Century 21 was on our "must see" list for New York, and it did not disappoint! Just make sure you get here very early, as soon as they open, and then get out of there by lunch, as the crowds do get overwhelming as 12:00 pm nears. The staff are not that helpful, and seem robotic, but at that point I really didn't care. I just got a $300 cashmere sweater for $65.00! I must warn you about the change rooms -- if you are a very private person, you may not like them. Basically, they are set up like stalls in a barn, no doors, just two narrow walls about a foot wide to separate you from your neighbor. However, no one's looking, as they're trying on bargains as fast as they can!!
There are truly some excellent bargains here, with plenty of all the big name designers. It was a whirlwind, but I remember seeing beautiful Tracey Reese dresses for $50.00; Marc Jacobs dresses for $65.00, a huge selection of high-quality cashmere for under $80.00, and Seven for All Mankind jeans at $75.00. For the vertically challenged, like me, there was a pretty good petites section and petite sizes available. The men's department had great prices too.

 | | | | CONWAY: That Pink Bag | Tip Rating: | | | | |
For those on a budget I would humbly suggest Conway. This large scale department store reminiscent of Woolworth’s, sells men, women and children’s clothing at a very reasonable price. The clothing although not high quality are inexpensive. You can find some great knock-off fashions at a next to nothing price tag. Along with clothing, Conway also sells a variety of household goods, small appliances and furnishings, toiletries and cosmetics. Some of my purchases include decorative pillows, yoga pants, decorate t-shirts and stockings. You can find a Conway throughout the city. Follow the Pink Bag!!
Everything and anything you can need or what at a very reasonable price (I'm talking cheap, especially for NYC prices)
Super reasonable, i.e. a women's "fashionable" blouse will set you back about $10.99 Leave a Comment Theme: Discount StoreAddress: 11 W. 34th Street, NYC, NYPhone: 212-967-5300
