Forever 21, New York City
This shopping tip, I am sure, will appeal only women (so I am giving you guys fair warning). There is generally not much bargain shopping in New York City, especially in Times Square unless you opt for the knock-off purses sold on nearly every corner, or happen upon a big sale. However, during our day trip to the Big Apple in June, 2010, we really got lucky with some bargain shopping! Forever 21 was opening a new store on Broadway. At first my daughter was not interested in looking in Forever 21 because the chain has a reputation of being pricey (at least in suburban stores). The day we visited it was a shopper's paradise--at least if you're young and/or a Size 2 which my daughter happens to be!!
The store, which covers 4 floors, has so many attractively displayed sections and types of clothing, jewelry, and other accessories that you just don't know where to look next. Most surprising of all, the prices were astoundingly low. My daughter purchased about 6 pieces of clothing including a dress, skirt, and several tops all for about $35 including tax. I purchased a business card case for $3.80 + tax. I passed up purchasing some interesting pieces of costume jewelry even though the prices were very good.
What to buy: Although there is a small section in this store for young men's clothes ( I believe, but am not totally sure about), the vast majority of space of the 4 floors is devoted to young women. The day we shopped there were great sun dresses for as little as $13, skirts $10, tops $3.50 and up---this is to give you an idea of the bargains that day. Of course, if you visit the store, prices may be very different, but it's certainly worth a look is you like trendy clothing!
Whether you're a shopaholic on a budget or just someone who can appreciate the need for thowaway clothing at thow away prices, this store is for you.
don't expect quality here, however nothing in the store including jeans are over 40$ with most items ranging below 20$ the clothing is a mish mash of something for every woman and have even introduced a contemporary clothing line for older women. both me and my 2 aunts in their 40's and 50's found many items and our styles are clearly very different.
it's easy to litterally spend hours in this store as the selection of clothing is huge and a little disorganized. the effort is worth it. i came away from new york with a brand new summer wardrobe (we're talking skirts and tops and summer dresses including a cute bag, underwear, a lightweight summer jacket and pj's) for a mere 153 bucks US. who cares if you have to be extra careful when you wash them? it's dirt cheap and very cute. expect to wait at least 20 minutes for a changing room if you go to either the soho or 14th st locations. i went to both and my suggestion is to go to the soho store on broadway. the store is cleaner, the staff is much nicer and alot less lazy and there's a bathroom at the armani exchange next door. the one on 14th also forgot to remove the alarm beeper thingies from 2 of the pairs of underwear I bought so make sure you check your items before you leave the store.
What to buy: tops, tops and more tops.
What to pay: 17.50 for a shirt or sun dress, 30 bucks for pants, skirts and jeans and 24.00 for a sweater or jacket. 3.80-5.80 for underwear and pajama bottoms.
forever 21 has a complete line for women, from tops to bottoms and everything in between. i love it!
What to buy: their tops are the best, trendy and fashionable! their styles can be worn during the day for casual settings or at night for that night out with friends.
What to pay: a bit on the expensive side. items start at $20 going up.
Incredibly popular with a younger crowd (under 30s), Forever 21 provides cheap, disposable but very trendy fashionable, up-to-the-second clothing, knockoffs of the most recent designs, you'll be sure to match the 5th Avenue lovelies for 1/10th of the price. Even I take time to occasion the shop for random pieces of jewelry. The clothing, while looking very nice for a time, are also very thin, cheaply constructed, are sure not to last very long. But they make interesting, temporary presents, such as a nice off-shoulder shirt or tunic, a flounced skirt or dress. They also have a decent collection of bags, but again, I prefer the jewelry. Most of my jewelry is Tiffanys and therefore, classics, Not very trendy at all, so I spend my change at Forever 21. They last longer than the shirts.
What to buy: Check out the sale items for embellished tanks that you can certainly use again, jewelry, simple bangles. They have a good set of basics, like t-shirts, turtlenecks, tanks, etc, if you want an assortment of colors at a cheap price.
Okay, so who doesn’t want to be Forever 21? Well, this women’s clothing store specializes in the newest trends for the young girls out there (and those who wish they were young, lol). A large selection of fashionable tops and bottoms you will definitely find what you want for the night on the town or just walking down the street and looking trendy.
This is also a very inexpensive store where the most expensive piece of clothing will set you back about $25. The store is a visual delight as the clothing is grouped in color rather by description.
You can find this store throughout the city as well.
What to buy: Fantastic tops!!
