The Brooklyn Botanic Garden and Brooklyn Museum are next to each other, but you may want to pick one or the other based on the weather because both involve a lot of walking and both deserve a few hours. In the Botanic Garden there is a lovely Japanese garden with a fish pond, some impressive greenhouses and ponds with waterlilies. Yes, you have to pay and there are also restrictions. For instance, you can't picnic on the ground and can only eat in the cafe area (which is nice). You can't play ball. You can sit on the ground in certain areas and it's just so peaceful and calm. It's a garden and not a park, so you go to see the flowers that are in season, and it changes constantly. Right now (late May, early June) the rose garden should be about to burst forth. In the spring there are the cherry blossom trees. People come here to take wedding photos of themselves, or first communion for the little children. There are sometimes special festivals, like the chili pepper festival, and fun things to do with children.

There are also some nice restaurants near by. You're near Park Slope and Prospect Park and there are tons of places to try on Underhill, Vanderbilt, Flatbush Avenue, and 7th Avenue in "the Slope."

I don't know New York Botanic garden in the Bronx, but I liked a lot this one in Brooklyn.I suppose every season has its charm and for the number of cherry-trees it has to be wonderful to see it in the blossom of late March.

BROOKLYN BOTANICAL GARDENS: 1000 Washington Avenue; Brooklyn, NY 11225;(718) 622-4433Words are not enough to describe this wonderful place... You walk in through the entrance leaving behind a dirty and noisy city to explore something close to paradise (well... for those of you who apreciate nature that is) This place gives you a wonderful opportunity to relax in a truly picturesque location, from the Japanese Garden to the Cherry Blossoms and let's not forget the Shakespear Garden. It is certainly a place worth dedicating more than one day to

    Brooklyn Botanical Graden.
Spring is the best time to visit. Summer and Fall are good seasons though.
I went there on summer. A pleasure.
