A strange sight on 5th Avenue is the largest Roman-Catholic cathedral in the USA. St. Patrick's Cathedral is located between the skyscrapers and luxury stores of 5th Avenue. It looks great though and a walk inside is also highly recommended. Its leaded lights are beautiful and the place can be so crowded that little TV screens are installed to ensure everybody can see the mass.
On the opposite side of the street, you can see a huge statue of the Greek god Atlas carrying the world on his back.

This is a beautiful cathedral, both on the outside and inside. If you're just visiting, be sure not to interrupt a mass if one is going on at the time. Anyway, this is definitely a must-see. I spent a little time here. Very nice.

St. Patrick's Cathedral
Numerous works of art abound within the Cathedral. The stone relief, Stations of the Cross, sculpted from Caen stone from Holland, won first prize in the field of religious art at the Chicago Worlds Fair of 1893. At the side of the Lady Chapel is the statue of the Pieta, designed by American sculptor William O. Partridge in 1906. The chapel and the statue honor the Blessed Virgin. The first Native American to be canonized a saint is enshrined in a bronze statue on the main floor of St. Patrick¡¯s Cathedral.
