If there is anything New York is famous for is it's bustling crowds, it's musicals, it's bright lights, and of course, a city that never sleeps! Well Times Square epitomizes this to the fullest. In fact, the only time Times Square is ever quiet is just before morning rush hour. Otherwise, it is one of New York's busiest spots. Pedestrian traffic and automobile traffic for one, musicals, restaurants, hotels, shops, you name it. No trip to New York is complete without a stop at Times Square.
Be sure to visit the Visitors Center at Times Square for more information about the Square and about New York.

Times Square is such a buzz, its usually packed with people rushing around snapping pictures! every second shop Is tourist gift shop which are always good fun and well priced, Also other shops for electronic goods have massive sales!!
There are some really nice burger bars scattered around times square which are a must, if you can handle American sized portion!! Times Square at night is even better everything lit up so it’s hardly dark atoll, just a magical feeling. If you get a restaurant in Times Square make sure you get a good table so you can see out, it’s great!

Standing in the middle of Times Square, one can't stop thinking you're in the middle of the Universe!
It seems to be busy nearly 24 hours a day.
If you've never been then no words can adequately describe the sights & sounds you'll experience.
Well worth seeing!

Sometime during your visit you must go to see Times Square, preferably at night when all the neon and lights are glowing. At one time this was a rather seedy area but when Guiliani became Mayor he cleaned up the neighborhood and now it is safe to visit day or night.
Times Square, originally known as Longacre Square, was renamed in 1904 when the New York Times built an office building on the site.
If you watch the New Year's Eve celebration in New York on TV, you have seen Times Square, this is where the giant ball drops at midnight. Other notable things in Times Square include the TKTS discount ticket booth, Madame Tussaud's and the MTV headquarters.

Times Square is located at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and reaches from West 42nd to West 47th Streets in the New york borough of Manhattan. Times Square is one of the most recognisable New York landmarks and is a sight familiar all around the world.
The square is instsntly recognisable from it's hoards of bright neon advertising boards which might sound gaudy but actually make an amazing sight in their own. the area is a huge commercial area with shops and restaurants stretching along it's lenght.
Times square used to be known as Longacre Square but was renamed Times Square after the The New York Times which was based at One Times Square.
On New Year's Eve a huge crowd descends on Times Square to countdown to midnight when a giant ball drops from One Times Square to signal the start of a new year.

This is a great place to visit and to find out if you have any long lost ancestors. Unfortunately for I did not.. But never the less it was very interesting, and eerie, to think of all those people that had come to America in search of a new life.. I wonder what and where their offspring are today ? ?

Times Square just screams New York! Having been a temporary resident of Manhattan, I didn't really trek out there much, but when my out-of-state friends came for a visit, Times Square was just one of those touristy sites I had to take them to. It’s so alive and so full of energy and the epitome of the NYC nightlife, but oh man, the foot traffic is simply awful and irritating. Consequently, the only time I ventured out there, aside from showing my friends around was to catch the musicals on Broadway, which you definitely must do if in the city. If you're interested in attending one yourself, find a TKTS booth to purchase discounted tickets for same-day performances.

Times Square does not look that good in the damp greyness of a wet New York morning, with just a few of the bright neon lights on, you don’t get the real feel for the place. In fact it looks just like any other busy city centre in the rain, but come the night time this place takes on an atmosphere all of it’s own.
You will find on any visit to New York that Times Square will be a place you see a lot of.
it takes time to appreciate it all, in fact you can overlook a lot of it's better points. Take the time to discover the area, you won't be dissapointed.

Luckily someone nice dragged us to Times Square on the last night we were in NYC. We had passed it several times in the previous days, but hadn't actually been there.. so almost missed this quite unique experience when it looks almost daytime while it is 1 am.. Thanks Chris!
