NYSE

The NYSE is the lasrgest stock exchange in the world by dollar volume and the second lagest in by the number of companies listed. Its share volume was exceeded by that of NASDAQ during the 1990's >The NYSE has a global capitilisation of about US$ 23 trillion!! You used to be able to take a look at the trading floor, but not anymore since 9/11. Now the building is constantly guared by the the police with M16's and police dogs.

George Washington again

Federal Hall was once located on 26 Wall Street. Originally it was built as the City Hall. The building was remodelled and enlarged and made into the first capitol of the US. The first congress met here in the new Federal Hall, wrote the Bill of Rights and inaugurated George Washington as the first US president. When the capitol moved to Philadelphia, the building housed the city government again. The whole building was demolished in the 19th century and replaced by the current structure. This was the first United States Customs House. When this was moved to 55 Wall Street, the building became the US Sub-Treasury. Millions of dollars of gold and silver were held in the vaults in the basement, until the Federal Reserve Bank replaced the whole sub-treasury system in 1920.

Architects from other parts of the country likely salivate when they see NYC.
So many interesting and different building designs from different periods of city history.

When the light is right in the afternoon on some of the older / non-skyscraper buidings in financial district, I thought the effect was stunning at times.

Great buildings in South Wall Street area, but they're all over town.

I liked the Hunter bldg uptown also.

The Wall Street Bull

If you go to Battery Park or The Statue of Liberty, it is well worth walking back via Wall Street which is only a couple of minutes away. Although I didn’t have much time here, it was worth stopping off to get a glimpse of the massive Wall Street Bull which can apparently be rubbed for luck.

Located across Wall Street, this imperial-looking temple was the site of George Washington’s first inauguration. The Parthenon and the statue of George Washington stand grandly in front of the Federal Hall National Memorial.

Wall Street takes its name from a wall the Dutch built in 1653. It was erected as a defense against nearby Indians. Under the Dutch, Wall Street was the city limit.

Located on the Financial District (From Broadway to South Street), Wall Street is home to the New York Stock Exchange, the Morgan Guaranty Trust Building, the Federal Hall National Memorial and many other buildings, Wall Street is worth a walk to look around.

During the day the area is incredibly busy with brokers, bankers, traders and other denizens of the financial forest running to and from, talking on cell phones and looking awfully important.

Our walking tour end at the Wall Street. Thanks to Jennifer, she did a great job. She made this walking tour a great experience for us.

The New York Stock Exchange began in 1792 when 24 brokers met under a buttonwood tree facing 68 Wall Street. Today, this neoclassical temple with its façade of Corinthian columns is the world's largest exchange with up to USD5.5 trillion of trading volume annually. Again, due to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the Stock Exchange is closed to visitors until further notice.
