Empire State Building, New York City
The majestic Empire State Building.
My place of employment.
Holding it's own in light of the 9/11 tragedy.
Thousands upon thousands visit this building everyday! Bus loads traveling from all areas in the US. and vacationing tourists from around the globe.
I took this picture on the way to work one day.
There's a MacDonald's and Wendy's across the street for you fast-fooders, as well as other deli type places, a Chase Bank with ATM, Duane Reade drugstore on the corner, and a CVS drugstore 1 block away. As well, there are restuarants interesting stores, and outdoor vendors as you walk up and down Fifth Ave.
Within the building there is a Walgreen's, newsstands, deli's, pizza parlor, souvenir stores, clothing boutiques, FedEx, banks and Hallmark cards.
And of course, the observation deck high atop to view the city. On a clear day, you can see forever!
There's also the skyride on the mezzanine. Which is a virtual tour ride through Manhattan.
Lots of cabs and limo service in the front of the building for your travel convenience.
The Empire State Building is a famous tourist trap with a silver lining... you can see an amazing amount of New York City architecture from the observation deck. It is worth it for that reason alone. Take binoculars.
I rated the Empire State building as a must-see but it still is a bit of a tourist trap. You get herded on the elevators like cattle and when you're up there there really isn't that much to see. The city is so polluted you see everything through a haze. Ah well...i still love it!!
Empire State Building - But it's sooooo worth it. I've been to the observation deck both in the daytime and at night. I thought it would be better at night, but I prefer the daytime view. (Flying into NYC at night, however, ROCKS!)
Empire State Building- it is not worth 1 hour in a line (or more)- just to find out that the sunny weather that was there when you entered the building is all gone, and it is all grey and really not much to see from the top. The prices on the top shop is outrageous- buy the same souvenirs in a small shop just around the corner of the building. Well, this is my opinion, anyway!!
When you go to the Empire State, do not be persuaded into the 'SKYRIDE' It's billed as giving you wonderful views of the city but basically just shakes you about until you feel sick without delivering the promised views in any meaningful way
Sure it is a beautiful view from the top of the Empire State building or the World Trade Center, but if you're going to try it on a Friday Saturday or Sunday then be prepared to stand in line for atleast 3 or 4 hours.. No, I'm not joking... I haven't discovered when the best time to go is, but I would recommend a Monday or Tuesday during the hours that the native New Yorkers are working.. around 9 a.m. Good Luck.. Oh, and go on a clear day or else your going to jump off when you discover that you can't see anything after waiting in line for so long.. I love New York..
The Empire State Building
Personally, I think it's over-rated. You can get an equally beautiful view of the city from the top of the Peninsula Hotel (Fifth Avenue at 55th Street), where you can sip a cocktail and won't wait in line.
Actually I believe everyone should see the Empire State Building and go up to the observatory. This is Mike & I inside Empire State Building.
Well not really ;) The Empire State Building is the tallest game in town now -- the lines are long, but the views, even on a less than perfect day, are wonderful.
