Take the cablecar to Roosevelt Island its included with your subwaypass.

I think you board at 60th street east.

I quite enjoyed walking around the island as it is a change from the hustle and bustle of Manhattan.
And you get a quite contrasting view of Manhattan.

The way to get to Franklin D. Roosevelt Island is one of the most exciting things i have been in nyc. you get this cable car which you can actually pay with your metrocard pass and you just go up about a couple hundred metres along the west channel and finally get to the island. you go inside this red cable car all the way to the island following aside the queensboro bridge.

If you want to go to Roosevelt Island then take the cable car. A return journey costs the same as two metro tickets and it's a lot nicer and much less stressful than the subway. The views to the North are great though the Queensboro bridge blocks the view down the East River. There's not a whole lot to do on Roosevelt Isalnd except admire the views of midtown Manhattan.
