While in Newburgh, you may want to check out the motorcycle museum and Orange County Choppers from the television show "American Chopper" on Discovery then on The Learning Channel. They have a bowling alley and café in there to relax from building the neat custom motorcycles and you can look through a view window to see the shop where they do the work. I did not see any of the guys from the show here; but did see some cute ladies including the very pretty, Nina. Nina said she was not on the show but she was worth a photo or two anyway. Sorry guys, she asked me not to post them here. Hours of the shop are 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 10 PM Friday and Saturday and 11 AM to 7 PM on Sunday.

    Washington's headquarters in Newburgh

The Revolutionary War and early United States of America history for you VT history buffs is alive and well in Newburgh. You see Washington made his headquarters in Newburgh at the Hudson River side home of Jonathan Hasbrouck house. In fact this was the longest he spent in one place during the whole war of American independence. This is the very first tax payer supported historic site in the United States dating to 1850 when it was acquired by the state of New York to honor George Washington and the birthplace of the original purple heart award. The house is set up and furnished to look as it did at the time the General, Mrs. Washington, and their slaves lived in New Newburgh.

Regular Season Hours: April 18 through October 28
    Open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sunday 1-5 p.m.

PUT ON YOUR SKATES OR CHECK OUT AN ICE HOCKEY GAME

by moiraistyx Written Jan 30, 2008

Patrick and I have begun to ice skate every other weekend or so. We absolutely love it. Due to the extremely mild winter we've had in NY, we've resorted to using one of the local ice areanas. Our favorite is Ice Time Sports Complex here in Newburgh. The have several public skate times, but we usually go on a Saturday or a Sunday from 2:00-3:45. Hopefully we'll be hitting the rink this Friday evening (public skate is 7:15-9:00). Ice Time also hosts its own ice hockey league, figure skating club and even hosts special spectator events. There is a fee for all of the activities held at Ice Time. Public skate is $8 for adults and $5 for children 5-12. You can also rent skates for an additonal $3 per person. Patrick and I luckily own our own skates. If you plan on skating often you can purchase a skate card at a reduced rate, you save 10%. The ice rink has a concessions stand complete with hot and cold foods (cocoa, cappucino, coffee, soda, juice, water, nachos, pretzels, pizza, hot dogs, chips etc.). There is also a game room for those of you that don't like or know how to skate.

Downing Park a peaceful place in Newburgh

by Ekahau Written Nov 25, 2006

Downing had advocated for the creation of Central Park, and he was designing the Mall in Washington, D.C., at the time of his accidental death at 38 in 1852. A decade earlier, is really a famous place for landscape design horticulturist and the whole public park movement. Andrew Jackson Downing born in Newburgh was the earliest leader of this whole effort and the Park is named after him. Downing was who was behind the big push for Central Park in New York City and he is credited with the deign of the Washington Mall in the Nations capital. Downing Park in Newburgh was designed by Calvert Vaux a well know landscape artist from London who worked with Downing at their Landscape architectural practice in Newburgh. But, Downing died as a very young man in his mid thirties in a steamboat accident on the Hudson. Vaux and Frederick Law Olmsted carried on Downing’s work in Central Park. The two with their two sons built this 37 acre park in the city of Newburgh named after their mentor.

Check out the photos they did a really good job right in the middle of the city s designed a peaceful place of refuge in the center of Newburgh.

    Visit Newburgh, Carefully

by Basaic Written Oct 28, 2014

Newburgh is a town of about 28,700 (up slightly since 2000) located at the intersection of Interstates 84 and 87 in Orange County in Southern New York. It is not far from the borders with Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Connecticut. Explorers noted the area as early as 1609 but the first settlers came in 1709 and were mostly from Germany. By the mid-1700s, however, the English and Scottish settlers outnumbered the German ones. Newburgh played an important role in the American Revolution. The old courthouse is one of the many interesting building in the old downtown area. Keep in mind though, Newburgh has been rated as one of the most dangerous towns in the country due to its crime rate.
