  • Ayza Wine and Chocolate Bar West Village: Wine Bars New York

by jhilll Written Mar 28, 2012

I'll be honest here, I'm not a wine drinker. I love having it when
it's around, but I don't know much about it. That being said, spending
an hour in this place made me feel like a wine pro afterwards! The
staff is helpful and the sommelier is happy to recommend from the wide
variety of wines they have here. Never did I need to worry about my
wine clashing with my food. The tasting selections are very reasonably
priced, and you could get in quite a few tastings without spending too
much. The bottle selection is full of all types of wine to choose
from, surveying the best of wines from all over the world.

As for the
food... don't let the small menu fool you. The cheeses and bread are
amazing. The salads are tasty, especially the goat cheese salad, a
definite prize winner! As for the entrees, we tried them all, and it's
nearly impossible to pick a favorite. The braised beef was flavorful,
the chicken was juicy and so tasty, the striped bass was cooked
perfectly, and the mushroom polenta was amazing. Honestly, I am a bit
glad there aren't more choices, it's hard to pick from all the
    fantastic entrees.

On top of great food and wine, the venue itself is
intimate, romantic, and modernly beautiful. It's good for both a
lovely date, as well as a place to hang out and kick back with
friends. It's the type of place where you'll be comfortable sitting
here and chatting away forever. From the expert wine drinker to the
young newbies, this place suits every type of person. It's definitely
the new hot spot in town, so be sure to check it out!

    Duff's: Alcohole Abuse Center

by MickeH Updated Nov 5, 2007

I almost wrote the classic 'a great place for all rockers out there'. But that is really all wrong. It's not A place, it's THE place.
Ok in all fairness I didn't to much extensive research before coming to that conclusion. We had a couple of rock placed marked out for a visit beforehand. Our first night in town we went to Duff's.
And the second... you get the picture. We never made it to any other place.

Good music, fantastic barkeeps and through 'n' trough hardrock.

It's located just north of the Williamsburg bridge in Brooklyn, on Kent Ave.

Go on, if you live on the rock side of life, go there. Order a couple of PBR's and some Jack. Good. Go and put Motörhead on the jukebox. Good. Now drink.

Duff's Brooklyn Typical Duff's... PBR's the way they were ment to be. Empty.

  • Otto's Shrunken Head: NYC Tiki Bar

by kalixp Written Aug 17, 2007

Otto's Shrunken Head is a great little Tiki place in New York City. The drinks were strong and delicious. Not cheesy or touristy at all. Plus they have a leopard print curtain in their photo booth. I think that they occasionally have live music too. The bartender was really nice, which was a plus since they were total jerks down the street at Beauty Bar.

    NIagara Falls: Niagara at night

by Taffster Updated Jul 1, 2006

I visited Niagara Falls (New York side) in the night when it was pitch black. Thinking I had been fooled about the size and grace of the falls, I was slightly disappointed with the minimal views that greeted me. Undoubtedly, the Falls did look awesome with multicoloured lights illuminating the flow and Toronto blinking in the background. If at all possible, visit the Falls in the night before you see them in the day – you will not be disappointed the next morning.

The Great Jack O' Lantern Blaze: Halloween Fun Around Sleepy Hollow

by kazander Updated Oct 28, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Thousands of artfully carved Jack O' Lanterns cover the property of the historic Van Cortlandt Manor in the quaint little town of Croton on the Hudson. The 300 year old Manor is the perfect setting for this amazing Halloween display. A lantern guided path takes you past all kinds of carved masterpieces, including intricate Celtic designs, "scarecrows" and an underwater diorama depicting all sorts of creatures from under the sea. It is really quite impressive. One of my favorite parts was the floating Jack O' Lanterns along the edge of the river, so spooky and wonderful!
At the end of your tour, you can browse the halloween and sleepy hallow themed items in the gift shop, or stop over to the snack stand for some hot cider and pumpkin bread.

9 Maple Street: Hundreds of Martinis to Choose from

by kazander Updated Feb 2, 2005

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We tredged out in the snow and the freezing cold weather to go to this Jazz club/bar I had read about that had a list of over 200 martini's to choose from. On a small back road in the town of Saratoga Springs, it's easy to miss, but do try and find it, the drinks are delightful! You have to ask for the giant 3 ring binder filled with delicious concoctions that are divided into liquor types, vodka martinis, gin martinis, rum martinis...ect... If you can't find what you want in that huge book, not to worry! They have a "special" list with over 6700 martinis!
We each tried a couple of martinis, I had the King's Fling (by far the best) and the chocolate raspberry (gets old quick) and Lou had the red apple and something else that neither of us can recall the name...
Great bartender, great drinks, well worth the snowy journey here!

Dress Code: There was no code when it was below freezing and blizzzardy, but I wouldn't wear snow boots or sneakers on a regular day.

    Warwick Drive In: Drive-In Movies

by kazander Written May 7, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Not so easy as it used to be to find one of these drive in movie theaters, at least not in Northwest NJ! So we take a drive over to Warwick. They have 3 movie screens. You pay when you enter and you can hear the movie through the car radio, old fashioned speakers,or they play it loud enough that you can sit outside in lawn chairs and hear it. In the middle of the grassy parking lot is a little snack stand and restroom area. Great for a date night!

Go to the theater to get your tickets - it reduces the cost of the tickets! It is almost half the price to get them at the door than it is to stand in line in Times Square or to get them on line.
