The Landmark Society of Rochester and the Gates Historical Society have acquired the locally famous Hinchey House and is providing tours. Parts of the home (built in 1870) have been converted to museum status for viewing. There are many momentos and artifacts from the late 19th century preserved in the house. A gift shop has been added in one of the entry rooms where souveniers and books about the Gates area can be purchased.

I prefer Pontillo's over any other pizza. They make a sauce that has just a bit of sweetness and very little acidic aftertaste. The crust is thick and puffy with just a hint of burnt dough. I could not find any negative reports about Gates in reference to crime information. Everything indicates that it is a very safe, small town. The only murders I could find were the ones on the movie screen in the local theater. The numbers in the crime stats put Gates in the top 5% of safe towns in New York State.
Use common sense. Lock doors; keep an eye on the kids; don't roam around alone late at night. I can't see how you can have anything but a very safe visit in Gates.
