Candy Cottage: Best Candy Store in Old Forge
The Candy Cottage has been owner owned and operated for almost 15 years, turning out homemade fudges, chocolates, candy apples, and other classic candies. Also, they have a machine for fresh donuts in operation. Samples of everything are available. A selection of Old Forge souvenirs lines the walls opposite the candy counter.
Reviews can be found on the internet praising the chocolates and particularly the fudges to the heavens. The products here are not bad, but simply aren't that good, are sold in minimum quarter pound amounts, and are not unexpectedly not cheap. As for the freshly made donuts, the aroma was terrific and filled the store but we were surprised that they were oily ( greasy?), really sweet, and not very tasty.
The Candy Cottage is the ultimate monopoly and those suffering a low sugar crisis, physical or psychological, will certainly enjoy a visit and not be unhappy with their choices. Don't over-buy. The candy here is not worth taking home.
Souvenir Village: place to get your memory tokens
Tee shirts, pens, flags, coffee mugs (and fresh roast coffee in the bag), etched glasses, refrigerator magnets, table cozies, and much more all with emblems of Old Forge area sights.
This little store has all the memorabilia you could ever want to help you remember your trip up route 28 or as a gift to please someone you left back home. The prices aren't too cheap but it is just about the only all-in-one souvenir shop in the area. Besides you are on vacation and this is no time to be a penny pincher.
The staff is great and they do not mind if you handle the merchandise (but you buy what you break). The store policy is "a fun place to shop". Come on in and you'll enjoy yourself for an hour or so.
