This site is really in Lakeview, NY but Oswego is the logical place for people to gravitate to if they are going to visit the nuclear plant. (so i put it here in Oswego also)
The nuclear plant at Nine Mile Point near Lakeview, NY (just northeast of Oswego,NY) has a demonstration layout of how nuclear plants operate to provide electric power for the community. The show-and-tell is aimed at showing how benign nuclear power can be and how good it is for the environment and how safe it is.
Takes about one-half hour to see and hear the demonstration.
Because of the new laws for Homeland Security, you can no longer drive into the Nine Mile Point area. The closest we could get was no closer than 300 yards away at a guard station they have erected on the branch highway (and I mean ARMED guards, who kindly but firmly directed us to turn around IMMEDIATELY).
A little outside of the city of Oswego is one of the few remaining drive-ins. Re-live the old times!
There are beautiful areas on Lake Ontario to walk, swim, kayak/canoe, picnic, whatever! I'll add more specific tips soon.
