The original forts that were built here by the British in the 1700's were replaced by the present fort in the 1840's. It has stood, with a few renovations, pretty much as it was then.
During World War II the premises was used as a refuge for displaced Jews. These refugees became U.S. citizens in 1946 (after many legal manuevers).
There are several museum rooms within the structures inside the fort. These museums have the history of the fort and the men (and women) who fought and lived here; artifacts from the several battles that were fought here; uniforms and armament of the fort.
There is a barracks room and a model of the camp kitchen; there are the gun implacements and the ramparts (where you can walk to get great view of the lake and Oswego).
The cost was around $10 per person in 2005 and we spent a good hour here. (my wife found a relative's name in the archives of one of the camp journals).

Harborfest, last weekend of...
Harborfest, last weekend of july every year. A couple hundred 1000 people come to the city over 4 days. 100's of free music acts/groups. There are numerous stages set up throughout the city and in parks. all divided up by muscially types. Starts on Friday with an oldies concert at the main stage, KC and the Sunshine Band last year. The fest features many upstate bands and talent as well as national acts. There are also many up and coming acts bands. Many of the past country acts are now famous. All the bands are very good and talented. They have music to suite eveyones taste. Sometimes there are a few good acts you want to see playing at the same time. They feature Rock, blues, Jazz, Funk, big band, country, latin, zydeco (carib®g)etc.. My favoirte from last year was Milo Z. A combination of blues, funk and dance, good stuff. Too many to name. Giant (Great) Lake as well with great fishing or other water sports. Nice long walkway along the river you can walk or run on or just watch all the fisherman. Supermodified open wheel racing at Oswego Speedway on Sat. night through summer mons. Medieval Fare outside City limits during late summer, numerous golf courses
lots of food and things to do, Grucci fireworks Sat night, spectacular. It's also fun to people watch, sometimes you can catch a freak show during Harborfest.
