dining area from the ads

The difference between the casual, rural atmosphere of Pike and the elegant restaurant at the Glen Iris Inn.

The inn has a long history of fine dining for the entire Letchworth region. The clientel is mostly tourists in the area to see the park and other local attractions or those rooming at the Inn itself. I had long pants and collared shirt and the ambience made me feel underdressed but I matched the other clientel so it didn't bother me much.

We had Grilled Chicken with salsa and peppers and the Pot Roast (I'm a meat and potatoes guy) for lunch. The staff was quiet and efficient, smiley but not over-friendly. The service was quick, probably because it wasn't their busy time of day/week. I understand that Fish Fry Fridays are very popular here and imagine that the smallish dining area would be quickly filled then. The food was done just as ordered (medium-well please) and delicious. We had caramel covered custard for dessert and a cup of coffee. It was a bit expensive for lunch ($20 each) but the experience was worth it. (besides, there aren't many restaurant choices in the Pike, NY area). We would definitely do it again (and probably will when we head back this way with my brother-in-law).

There is a nice veranda/screened-porch are of the dining room that we should have eaten in but did not notice until we were leaving. It overlooked some the nice garden areas of the property.

very rural area way out on routes 39 and 19

There is public transportation but it is dial-a-bus service centered in Warsaw, NY (15 miles north of Pike). http://www.rgrta.com/RegionalOperations/WYTS.aspx

Mt. Morris (20 miles northeast of Pike) has the closest taxi service (Mt.Morris Taxi... 585-658-4515).

Geneseo, NY (20 miles northeast) has the closest car rental service (Enterprise Rental... 585-243-6660).

Private auto is the most effective means of traveling around Pike. Route 19 going north and south and route 39 going east and west will connect you readily to most of the tourist attractions in the area. Gas stations in Portageville, Castille and Silver Springs are open seven days a week.

This is a full week affair with key events each day plus entertainment, food vendors, and rides.
There will be a parade and an animal show-off; a queen of the fair will be chosen and reign for the week. Food will be baked in contests and eaten by onlookers who bid for the results.
You can see tractor pulls and and horse control shows and dog obedience shows. They have exhibits for equipment and farm activities. There will be singers and fiddlers and pig callers.

It will be a raucus time and fun will be had by all.

See the website below for details of dates and times and ticket procurement.

a good quiet place to just sit and think

This quiet farm community has little or no crime and only 1 sex offender registered.
There should be nothing for any tourist to be worried about on their visit to Pike.

Still, travelers should not take unnecessary risks and should use the same precautions they use at home while on vacation.
