Patel Brothers is a large Indian grocery store in Jackson Heights. You can find everything you need to cook your own Indian dishes. There is no exotic Indian spice that is not there. You can also buy big bags of cashews, pistacchios, rice, lentils, you name it. It's there. There is also a very good selection of already prepared frozen meals.
What to buy: Spices, 50 pound sacks of various rices, exotic fruits and vegetables. Anything you need for an Indian meal.

austin street is the best shopping area in queens. walk up and down the street, and you'll find everything from the gap and banana republic, to small individually owned boutiques. theres plenty of shoe stores, hair salons, jewelry stores, etc.
Sometimes you can find a pretty good deal at the Annie Sez next to Barnes and Nobles.
What to buy: anything. you can get higher end designer things at austin jeans, regular clothes at banana republic or the gap, childrens things at childrens place, books, jewelry (if you're shopping for jewelry stores, they get cheaper the further down you walk from 71st and continental. the ones on continental are a lot more pricy then the ones further down on austin, towards ascan ave.)
theres also a lot of great shoe stores.
