Bond Lake Park is a nice recreational park with good-sized lake and a modernized nature center.
The area the park is on used to be the residue area of a quarry. It has been smartly landscaped and forested for the past 50 years or more.
There are picnic tables and fire-grates near the parking areas. Each section has a public restroom.
The park has installed a new play center (swings, slides, etc.) for the children and there are several fields for ball games.
The nature center features displays and kiosks of local animals. There are mapped and marked walking trails (plus a few impromptu ones made by previous visitors).
During the summer you can fish and boat on the lake. In the winter you can sled on the hills or ski on the trails.
Entrance fee is $5 per car.
If you like to watch dirt track racers, then you'll really like the venue and races at Ransomville Speedway.
The cars are stocked, blocked, modified and midgets. The drivers are fast and reckless.
The noise is tremendous and you are guaranteed to see at least one major crash. On some weekends they present go-kart races too, which are not as fast but are surely as exciting.
They race afternoons and evenings on weekends during the summer months. See the website below for the latest schedule information.
The cost is $12 for the grandstand seats/benches and $20 for the pit area (must call for reservations). They also offer a $45 family ticket (4 people) which includes a box lunch in the grandstand.
Equipment: Ear plugs and umbrella. One for the noise and one when it rains because they just keep on racing.
