Getting to and aorund Ray is best by car. You could bike out from Batavia (8 miles one way). You could get a taxi (Mike's Taxi, 139 Summit Street, 585-343-3309) also from Batavia.
Car rental is available from Batavia's Enterprise (226 West Main Street, 585-344-3100) and they will pick you up and drop you off (for a small fee).
Major commercial transportation (bus, train, plane) are all available but at least 30 miles away in Rochester or Buffalo.
So having a car is the most convenient mode for visiting Ray. Access to the area is generally by way of the New York State Thruway (I-90). Use the Batavia or Pembroke exits and take route 33 or route US20 ten miles to the Ray area. All these roads are major highways with speed limits at least 55mph and they are all well-maintained in all seasons.
The rest of the roads in the area are secondary roads that range from good to poor in quality and accessibility in bad weather. These roads generally have lower speed limits, are narrower and have little or no shoulders. They are not illuminated at night.
