Visit the St. James General Store. It's like going back to colonial days. It has an old time feel. Its the original buidling, downstairs theres all kinds of knick knacks to buy, and the best candy EVER! Candy thats hard to get b/c no one else sells it any more, like licorice pipes. Upstairs there are books, a lot of them history books, mainly made for children. It's a great place to visit if you're a history buff, like candy or love antiques. I've been going there since I was a kid, and I still love it. Sometimes they have craft fairs, usually in the Spring and Summer.

Whenever I visit my sister on Long Island, my niece's always want to go to "the cow place" - Maureen's Restaurant. The restaurant was a Victorian house - the enclosed porch serves as the waiting area. And you WILL wait - it's always busy, and they don't take reservations. They also don't take credit cards - cash only - so be prepared!
Once inside it is boisterous - you'll have to shout your conversation across the table - and delightfully tacky. Cows everywhere, from the lamps to the creamers to the coffee mugs.
The portions are large, and the prices are reasonable (ever so slightly more than you would pay at an IHOP chain).
Favorite Dish: I love the chocolate chip pancakes (I mean, really, who wouldn't??), and the spinach, tomato & feta omelette. The service is quick, and it's a fun place - more memorable than a chain restaurant for breakfast.

Simple elegance would best describe the resteraunt. Small portions, big bill.... but sooo worth it. The food is different, but its a party for your palate. Sooo amazing.
Favorite Dish: Theres usually different things when I go, everything is good, but you should be willing to try new things if you go. The presentations of the food are amazing! Very romantic, great date place if you want to impress!

This is my favorite eatery for a cheap bite to eat. They have all the traditional mexican dishes...like taco bell, but not gross. They have all fresh ingredients....the guacamole is great!!! You can get it to go or eat in.
Favorite Dish: The tacos are my favorite, they serve it with pieces of chicken or steak,...no ground meat. The ingredients are soo fresh! The chips and salsa they give you before are awesome. Also, try the fried ice cream for dessert!!! If not, Ralphs ices are next door.

For truly elegant dining in Smithtown, this is a must go. It is manhatten on Long Island. The dishes are amazing and can be custom made for you. Everything is just delicious. The atmosphere is classy, a little overdone. The resteraunt can get cramped, but it's usually not too crowded if you go early enough. You should try to make reservations. The music is delightful. A few nights each month they have a broadway or opera night, where singers come and serenade during dinner, reservations are a MUST for evenings like these. Just be aware, it's pricey...a dinner for two can run you around $75-100, depending on if you get drinks.
Favorite Dish: Honestly, I've had everything from fish to chicken there, and everything tastes great. It's really what you like. The vegetables are cooked to perfection, the sauces are delectible. The staff will tell you what is for dinner, there usually arent menus. If you like something from one dish and want to put it with the side from another, they'll do it, its marvelous.
