Sodus Center Off The Beaten Path

In 1889, the first Arbor Day was celebrated in Wayne County and trees were planted near the Sodus Center Baptist Church. The church itself is the oldest church in Wayne County, built in 1826 and is a fine example of early 19th century construction.
Some of the trees planted in 1889 are still standing near the church and behind the rural cemetery.

The area is open to the public but be considerate because the church is still used by the community and may be in use on the day you visit.

    to get there:
    7800 Brick Church Road
take route 104 (Seaway Trail Expressway) to the Alton exit and go south on route 14 to connect to Brick Church Road. go west on Brick Church Road almost to the Geneva Road intersection.
