Favorite thing: Growing up in Syracuse means growing up on the fringe of the wonderful "Finger Lake" region. There are 14e of these glacially created lakes although 5 or 6 of them are the largest and most visited.
.
I gew up near Skaneateles -- which was an easy drive from Fayetteville. Several friends has summer houses on the lake. We would drive through the rolling farm;and, pick up some just-picked corn on the cob and preceed to spend the day in and around the lake and the grill!!!
.
These pictures are of one of the larger lakes, Canandaigua, in the winter. A good website for information about the region is:

Fondest memory: Now that I am an adult I enjoy the Finger Lakes for the views, the sailing and the WINERIES!

Bully Hill doesn't make the best wine in the region, but their labels are gorgeous and their restaurant overlooking the lake is worth the stop!

Favorite thing: Central New Yorker's are distinguished from their "second cousins", as in New York City type folks, by being as pleasant and tranquil while being cultured as those residents of the southern most New York city are the opposites (and perhaps, thereby, not quite as "cultured" as they would like to believe!!)
In various locations around the city you will see art works on display, created by local artists to suit their mood at the moment or the sense of group cultural mood of Central New York.
Fondest memory: There is a "standing" display of fiberglass figures on the old train platform that is along side Interstate 690 as it passes through the center of the city. The road way is in fact the old railroad right of way. It passes the old station platforms that I recall departing from and arriving at in the very early 50's when my mother took my brother and I to visit our grand parents in Michigan. The "display" is somewhat flexible depending again on :"the mood" at the moment. Normally they are stark white figures standing either alone or as a small group on the old platform and informally at least titled "Waiting for the Night Train". Occasionally in the "cold depths of winter" one or two of the figures may "sport" a colorful scarf in stark contrast to the white of the season.
Currently I do not have photos of "Waiting for the night train" to post but there is also an artist locally who creates very emotionally "electrifying" art metal figures sometimes arranged in scenes.
I do have some examples of his work..

Favorite thing: My last trip to Syracuse was one big party of a weekend. Friday night, my flight arrived at 9 and we were out in Armory Square bars till the wee hours. Then on Saturday it was fine dining and the Billy Joel concert followed by more partying on the Syracuse campus and then back in downtown. It was my first Billy Joel concert, which was great, but I think I'm getting too old for all the serious partying!

Favorite thing: Since I was a kid, I always liked seeing the small red house on top of an old industrial building located on the city's northside. No one lives in the house. I forget why it was built in the first place, but it's now a City landmark.

Favorite thing: Basilica of the Sacred Heart Church is the only Basilica in the Syracuse area. A Basilica is where the Pope would visit if he came to the region.
It's located on the West side off West Genesse street.

Favorite thing: Hated the town. Went there for a bowling tournament. People don't care and have an attitude. Our hotel sucked. Had brown water the first day we were there. Would never 'go out of my way' to stop in Syracuse. Would avoid this town.
Fondest memory: Irish bar downtown

Favorite thing: I live in Syracuse so I know the dos and dont's. When visiting you must check out the theater. There are many shows that constantly are running and Syracuse ALWAYS does a great job with them, especially at Syracuse Stage. Also explore Armory Square, it is the Greenwich village of Syracuse.
