Little Thai House: Excellent Thai food with great service

    by kooka3 Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We stopped here because they were advertising lunch specials -- $4.95 for any dish on Monday - Thursday from 11-3 (price is $7.95 for lunch specials Friday - Sunday). We figured we couldn't go wrong for that price. We couldn't believe how fantastic the food was! The servings were huge -- I ended up with enough leftovers for a second meal -- and it was SO SO good! The people were very nice and service was quick. Our food was out in about 10 minutes, and our water glasses were never empty.

Favorite Dish: I had the massaman curry and tried the ginger beef. I would recommend both.

Erawan Thai: unlikely spot for great Thai food

    by kooka3 Written Jul 2, 2004

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For a small place that looks like a hole-in-the-wall sort of place from the road, this has the most amazing Thai food around! It's been ranked as the best Thai food in Syracuse in the Syracuse paper. The place is casual so go as you are. The menu is extensive, prices are good, and service is quick.

Favorite Dish: This makes the best Thai Spring Rolls I've ever had - uncooked fresh veggies (lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, etc) wrapped in amazing rice paper (I think!). The pad thai was terrific, as was the Thom Ka soup.

    Speghetti Warehouse: Spaghetti Warehouse

This is a national chain, which I just found out. This is the only one in New York, and it's worth going to. The decor is great - an old cabose (yes, you can eat in it!), old carousel horses, etc. I've never had bad food or bad service there.

Favorite Dish: Try the lasagna or the ravoli.

The Brooklyn Pickle: A must for great sandwiches!

    by kooka3 Written Jul 2, 2004

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I used to live about 2 blocks from this place, and I was addicted to the food here! This is a no-nonsense, not-many-frills place to eat. They put their efforts into making good food and giving good service, and the restaurants are clean and well maintained. There are 2 locations on Burnet Ave and on West Genesee Street. They both have tables inside and out.

Favorite Dish: The sandwiches are HUGE!! Breads are always fresh. They also make their own soups, and they have come up with some amazing recipes. Try the Neptune Stew, which has seafood (shrimp and clams, i think) with vegies like mushrooms, onions, and green/red peppers. Think chowder meets marinara. Try their beer & cheddar soup, too.

Empire Brewery in Armory Square, Little Thai House on Erie Blvd., King David's on Marshall Street (Syracuse Univ.)
At Empire there is great microbrewed beer, my favorite is Amber Ale. Lunch is very reasonable for large portions. Thai House has plenty of vegetarian options. King David's has take out, and you can't beat the $2.99 Falafel pita sandwich.

Favorite Dish: Empire has authentic Cajun food, Thai House has good Thai food, and King David's has great Falafel, Baklava, Hummous, etc.

Dominick's: Some of the best Italian food in Syracuse

    by kooka3 Updated Jul 2, 2004

This has one of the nicest/friendliest atmospheres in town. Add that to their huge portions, consistently excellent food, and very reasonable prices, and you have a winner! On the weekends, their is usually a wait, which is a testament to the quality of the food there - people keep going back, and no one seems to mind waiting for a table.

Favorite Dish: I haven't had anything that wasn't excellent.

This is a pub, and they have 1 thing on the menu - Roast Beef Sandwiches. The beef is carved thin right in front of you. They will put on onion if you want and give you choices of great spicy mustards. Enjoy!

Southern style BBQ and blues under a foot of snow? No problem!! Here you can get ribs and other grill delicacies while enjoying the music. Live at times. Owners were a bunch of bikers and the local Harley dealer is just above the restaurant. Don't forget to take a sample of their BBQ sauce home!!

Favorite Restaurant: The Olive Garden, and Itchibans Favorite Menu Item: At the Olive Garden all the Pasta's are
delicious. Also they serve some nice deserts. Itchibans is a more elegants chinease food resturants.
For the O.G. around 10-15 dollars a plate for dinner plates. Portions are generous and
atmosphere is pleasent. Itchibans is over 15 dollars but worth it for a much more elegant resturant.
Location: The O.G. is Located in the town of Clay outside the city, right in front of the Great Northren Mall (near Rt 31). Itchibans is between the village of Liverpool and Syracuse city.

  • Sugarpearl Espresso Bar: Best Veggies and Coffee

    by footloose25 Updated Apr 4, 2011

I really liked this place. The food was good, which was a surprise to me because I usually don't like vegetarian food. (I had come in for coffee and ended up with the powerburger. I wish all vegan food tasted like that.)
There's parking and wifi. The atmosphere is diner-friendly and informal. I was actually served by the owner, who was very pleasant and chatty. The back room has a classy feel (with a pool table!) I understand that they also deliver and cater - there were some good reviews tacked up to the wall.
My only complaint is that the price is a little high. Not Lake Placid high, or even Chinese Buffet high, but high enough that you notice. I figured I got what I paid for.
They're not very well publicized but it's worth it to seek them out.

Favorite Dish: Powerburger. I had a cookie for dessert but the burger tasted good and didn't give me the greasy feeling that I sometimes get from hamburgers.

Heid's Hot Dog: Go to Heid's for a Great Hot Dog

by donclark Updated Jul 28, 2005

A Syracuse landmark. Great Hot Dogs. Good Atmosphere. The place could use a little more landscaping and litter clean up though. A big dead bush still sits near the entrance by the railroad tracks. (Go to Hafner's and buy some mulch please. Learn from the chains who take care of their property)

    Favorite Dish: Hot Dog

    Other people enjoy their Coney's
