Utica Restaurants

  • Unhappy

My wife and I ordered almost $300 of food from the acting menu for a party we were having. After a considerable wait to pick up the food (which was ordered a week prior) I got it home as friends and family were arriving, set up the food which we had to use our own trays and heaters and saw that 3 of the 5 trays we ordered contained meat which we...

  • The Dog's Don't Bite Here

There aren't too many old fashioned diners left. The service is very hospitable and just to hear Tony's unique laugh is worth stopping in for. Always a warm and friendly experience. You won't be disappointed. They make the best "chili dogs" in the world. These are the "dogs" you want to bite.

  • Steakhouse

I'm not sure how the food is. The front looks interesting however. My buddy and coworker MIke was driving, and inadvertantly ended up in the photo. You may also notoce the art- deco style theater next door. This is what I had intended to photograph.I guess it's a 2 for 1 deal!!! Theater and Restaurant. Dinner and a Movie, if you will. Anything, I...

  • Mangia

The restauarant is a small restaurant with just enough ambiance of a local neighborhood and dash of upscale dining. My favorite dish was the Chicken Riggies. A unique dish born of this area. It is a light red sauce with chicken pieces and hot cherry peppers. Just enough to notice. Sometimes served in a white sauce. I have not had a bad experience...

  • Symeon's

Probably the most successful rest. in the area because the food is good, service is attentive and the prices are reasonable. Ask if Symeon is there and introduce yourself, he is what made this rest. what it is. Greek salad, tzatziki dip and fried calamari.

    Target: Then and Now

by rdywenur Updated Jun 11, 2005

One of my fondest memories was of the local most popular band "Target". Now you have to travel to SC to see them. Once they came to Rochester where I caught their act and a most terrific display of drum playing by Maurice. What a show. My last time to see them was when they were playing in Alexander Bay while I was there for the weekend.

    Then...Brian signing autographs

Utica Local Customs

  • Meeting Hillary Clinton

How many people get to study for their citizenship, get to have a news photo taken to boot and then years later get an autographed signature of the first lady. My mom was very proud to recieve it and I remembered she studied hard to earn it. While I was learning to read so was she. When I heard she might possibly get to meet Mrs. Clinton, I talked...

Utica Warnings and Dangers

  • Cornhill -- Another View

Corn Hill looks a lot worse than it is. The main problem is that it is abandoned and lonely at night. Eagle and Rutger Streets are the ones to stay off of at night. There are just too many empty lots.I used to use James Street if I wanted to walk through Cornhill at night to reach Mohawk Street which is one of the few places in Utica with good...

  • Guess what??? CORN HILL AGAIN!!!!!

To be frank, I don't think there is much to worry about in Utica except this area.I have heard rumors (from old timers in Utica) of there being a Bosnian Mafia presence now, but I have my doubts.I guess noone worried about us Italians until it became a stark reality though. Anything may be possible.

  • Corn Hill

I guess there were more houses here at one time. They turned into crack/ drug houses, so they were demolished. All of the empty lots on the right of the photo were once homes. What a pity.

Obviously Waterville. We were four English guys staying there for a while, but because it's such a small place we became famous enough to get in the local newspaper as the first international people to ever stay there.

Florentine Pastry Shop For some of the best Italian pastries to die for. I have yet to find a canoli that surpases the Florentine's. This is definetly a must see and do event . Another favorite is a "pustie" filled with either vanilla or chocolate creme and an expresso.

Go to a small town called Waterville 40 minutes away. It's a typical small town with wooden houses where everyone knows everyone. Just like a movie set. We stayed with a friend who's family were the kindest most generous people I've met. Woodstock '99 in Rome. We gatecrashed it the first night and went to see the riots on the Sunday night. But the...
