Wautoma Beach Things to Do
In 1896, this lighthouse on Braddock Point was reborn after the original one was torn down and reconstructed. Much of the original lighting fixtures were used in the rebuilding.
It is one of the few Cleveland style structures still standing on Lake Ontario.
One hundred and four years later, the lighthouse was sold and is now a private home.
As you can see in the archive photo, the original tower was quite a bit taller than the present reconstruction, but other than the heighth, the reconstruction was true to the original. In 1970s a new roof was made to replace the old one and that was not made in the Clevelend style but rather patterned after the one in Charlotte.
to get there:
Take Lake Ontario State Parkway to Lighthouse Drive; go north on Lighthouse Road then a right onto Clearview Ave. Please remember that this is now a private residence and obey the DO NOT TRESPASS sign. A better view is from the lake side if you have access to a boat.Related to:
