View from Trophy Point
Favorite thing: Pre-9/11 we were able to drive around the West Point campus and explore the area, which is quite extensive and fascinating. The cemetery, which I found most interesting, is not included in the bus tour, which is now the only way for visitors to see the West Point campus unless they have specific business on-site (ie reservations at The Thayer Hotel). If you do drive onto the grounds, expect a thorough search.
WEST POINT MUSEUM
Favorite thing: This is the West Point Museum at the West Point Military Academy . Admission is free but a donation would be appreciated.
We were not able to take the tour of the grounds as they seem to have had problems with there buses and some tours were scratched .
The Academy and town are pretty sleepy in August . It appears that the time to come is in the fall when the students practice marching on the campus grounds.
How does West Point rate compared to other US military academies for a place to visit ? At first glance third place.

Remember that many famous...
Favorite thing: Remember that many famous Americans have graduated from its 'hallowed halls'. you can tell that West Point is proud of its alumni by the various monuments scattered about. Here's one dedicated to Douglas MacArthur.
Fondest memory: While I was a cadet, General Omar Bradley made a visit - with some full bird colonel pushing the general around in his wheel chair.
believe me when I say I was...
Favorite thing: believe me when I say I was there. Here's a picture, taken in my dorm room, of me trying to look like a toy soldier.
Fondest memory: Seeing the late '70's rock bands UFO, and REO Speedwagon in Eisenhower Hall as a cadet.
Try an imagine a rock concert full of guys (and a few gals) all with short military haircuts and most wearing uniforms similar to mine here (those Seniors got away with civilian clothes a lot more often than us Plebes).
Catch the view of the Hudson...
Favorite thing: Catch the view of the Hudson River. West Point sits right on the Hudson, just a few miles south of Newburgh.
