    Butterfield 8: Good Brunch

    by cjg1 Updated Jun 17, 2013

Butterfield 8 is one of the many bar/restaurants on Mamaroneck Avenue. This place stuck out to us due to its corner location and large open windows looking out onto the street. After we first set eyes on the joint; we knew we'd be back to try it out.

My wife and I decided to take my Mother in Law out for a nice Sunday Brunch here. The restaurant is within walking distance of her house ;so we need not worry about finding parking. We arrived a little after 12pm and the place was pretty dead; which made us a bit aprehensive. The hostess sat us at a table by one of the many open windows; perfect for the breeze and people watching.

The Brunch menu had a good selection of breakfast and lunch items to choose from; pancakes, steak & eggs, burgers, pizza, pancakes, etc. We started off with ordering drinks. They have a special here; $15 all you can drink Mimosa, Bellini or Bloody Marys. All three of us chose this option as it is a good deal with most drinks being $11-14 dollars each. My wife and her Mom chose Bellinis as their poison and I chose Bloody Marys.

For entrees; I knew what I wanted from the get go; Steak & Eggs. My wife chose the French Toast and my Mother In Law decided to have their Walnut pancakes with a side of bacon. While waiting for our food we easily sat back, relaxed, enjoyed the window seat and sipped our drinks. The vibe here is so good and the music is great. We had so much fun listening to the song selctions and reminiscing.

Now for the food; I liked my Steak and Eggs but did not love it. The Eggs were eh...I wished they were fried but they were an omlette. My wife loved her French Toast and we all took turns sharing pieces of it. My Mother in Law got the best meal of the bunch. Her pancakes were incredibly good; I was so happy she couldn't finish it all and gave it to me. I think next time; I get the pancakes.

Service here was very good and friendly. They kept the drinks coming and didn't rush us a bit. Next time we'll pace the drinks; my wife and Mother in Law were feeling very "good" after their four Bellinis.

Michelangelo's Pizza, Pasta & Things: Good inexpensive Italian

by Gypsystravels Updated May 26, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We seem to come here often as this is a really nice local Italian restaurant owned and run by the same family. There are two sections to the restaurant, the take out section and sit down area. The restaurant has a few tables and scattered booths with a section for a larger party.

The restaurant lacks decor, but the food makes up for this shortcoming. We are always greated by a friendly hostess with really good service. A warm basket of bread is brought over and we usually order our drinks and an appetizer. Once our drinks are brought to us we place our order.

The food here is excellent, inexpensive and the waitstaff quite friendly. We haven't had a bad meal here yet :)

If you prefer, take your meal to go, they serve it pipping hot and in containers that keep it hot enough to enjoy when you get back home.

Favorite Dish: I love their warm bread basket. As an appetizer I have ordered their calamari, which is quite yummy and not rubbery. I have also ordered a regular green salad. For my meals I have had their yummy seafood fra diavolo with pasta, the mussels marinara which is one of my favorite as well as their gnocchi and I have also had their meatball hero.

    CITY OF A 100 RESTAURANTS

by zuriga Updated Apr 1, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

White Plains has any sort of food one could be in the mood for. The best restaurant is probably Mulino's which serves fantastic Italian dishes. For Japanese, try Seasons and there's also a Cheesecake Factory, The Bengal Tiger, Dunn's Irish Pub and a Pizzeria Uno.. just to name a few. I forgot P.F. Chang!
