Sampson State Park is a great place for campers and boaters.
There is a major marina in the park for access onto Seneca Lake. You can berth your ship there all year round if you have the funds to pay for it. Seneca Lake trout fishing is normally very good.
The camping facilities are huge; over 300 campsites. There are hiking trails in the woods and down the hills to the shore line of Sampson Park beach. There are ball fields and a camp store; restroom facilities scattered among the camping loops; a community room and a dumping station.
The park has picnic areas with grill-stands for the day-time visitors. The view from the picnic areas overlooking the lake are very nice. Autumn in the park is especially beautiful with all the color in the trees.
This is one of the open-all-year parks so you can enjoy the outdoors in winter as well as summer (some of the summer facilities like the community center are not open in winter).
There is a small Naval Museum adjacent to the camping area. It has artifacts of the days when the park was part of the Army and Navy Training Center.

It is a bit spooky at night because there are few public lights after dark and many of the farming families retire early also; so it is very dark on the backroads and highways.
But there is nothing to fear from a criminal standpoint. Just use your common sense and you should be able to have a pleasant visit to Willard.
