Durand Eastman Park
(This is right next to Windsor Beach but is listed also in Irondequoit where it is more likely to be seen)

The park is north of Irondequoit on the east side of the river, west side of the bay. There are a ton of things to do there depending on the time of year.

BIRDING
Bird watchers "flock" to this area in the spring to see the migratory fowl gathering on both the lake front and the ponds that dot the park. You get to see the ubiiquitous sea gulls and swans but also warblers, vitreos, lesser scaup, finches, crossbills and flycatchers. There are numerous water areas and wooded areas and three large fields where you can park and only have to trek a few hundred feet to get a glimpse of thousands of birds.

GOLFING
The course is wide fairways with rises and valleys. There are a number of water hazards and you need to be watchful when crossing the highway that spilts some of the holes.

HIKING
Numerous dirt trails or you can just walk/jog in the safety path along the side of the roadway.

ARBORETUM
You can visit the open garden and treed area of the Slavin Arboretum. makes for a nice walk in a quiet environment.

SPECIAL EVENTS
At Camp Eastman (the west side of the Park), annual events like OctoberFest and IrishFest are held and cost about $10 per day to attend (plus whatever you spend for food and souveniers). Soap Box Derby is run on the highway near Camp Eastman in the summer.

PICNICING
There are several picnic areas among the three roads in the park and along the lake front

SWIMMING
The government has recently (2006) officially opened the lake front in Durand to swimmers. (people have been swimming there for a century, at their own risk). Life Guards will be posted on days that the beaches are deemed safe to swim in.

FISHING in summer and CROSS COUNTRY SKIING in winter

to get there:
route 104 expressway to the Culver Road exit. take Culver Road north to just before SeaBreeze Park. you will see the signs on the west side; if you past the minigolf then you past the park road.
