various spots USA: as varied as the country itself is

by richiecdisc Updated Jun 20, 2010

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The USA is no slouch when it comes to nightlife. While I am not the big party person I once was, I still do enjoy a drink to unwind while traveling. When it comes to traveling around the USA, I am generally visiting the National Parks and camping. Nothing beats sitting in the wonderful splendid nature you've driven so far to see and sipping on a few local beers made in the area.

There are times when you want something else and for me, that means heading to a brewpub or great beer bar to sip a variety of the great beers that the USA makes. Great hotbeds for these beers are Seattle, Portland, OR, San Francisco, NYC, Philadelphia, and countless others. Please check my individual pages for great places to enjoy local beers. Chances are if there is a brewery anywhere near where I am traveling, I make it a point to hit it!

    Regal Cinemas: movies

    by b1bob Written Jan 9, 2008

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Regal Cinemas is a chain of movie houses across a good bit of the 50 states. On the rare occasions when I go to the movies, it's usually to a Regal Cinema. The movie houses are of varying size, but all have multiple movie screens. I like the way they put their pleas for moviegoers to be quiet Let the actors do the talking.

Dress Code: Shirt and shoes, nothing extravagant.

Pinups: Parttime Strip Club in Huachuca City, Arizona

by Basaic Written Oct 22, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Pinup's is a strip club that advertises: Dancers, Drinks, and Darts. They only have dancers Wednesday through Saturday Nights after 7:30 PM. There is a $5 cover charge and a two drink minimum. I have not been there when they had dancers; so I cannot attest to the quality. The decor is typical for a bar, with lots of beer, liquor and sports posters. They have one pool table, several dart boards and a small stage for the dancers. It was pretty dead on Sunday afternoon. For Huachuca City it is about the only place in town.

Dress Code: No real dress code. Most of the locals wear jeans and cowboy attire.

Gay 90's Bar: Small Town Local Bar in Naco, Arizona

by Basaic Written Oct 1, 2007

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are three things people go to the Gay 90's Bar for. Drinking, listening to country music and shooting pool. Hours are 10 AM to 1 AM 365 days a year. The decor was normal for a bar. Neon advertisements for various alcoholic beverages and posters for beers many with scantily clad women. The main difference was the mixture of advertisements and posters in Spanish. The two pool tables looked pretty good. A tall glass of Sprite cost me a buck. Photo to follow.

Dress Code: The clientele tended to be older (like senior citizen older). Dress was blue jeans and western style shirts mixed with a couple of guys in motorcycle gear. Bottom Line: Dress down or you will stand out even more than you already do since you are not a local.

various: Insomnia? Drive to a casino...

    by PA2AKgirl Updated Sep 21, 2006

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There's a been quite a few occasions where, late at night, we get the idea to drive to a casino.
Okay, so you can go during the day, but it's more fun at night and if you stay into the early morning, at a lot of places you'll have choices of machines. Plus, in most casinos, you get free alcohol. Cherokee, NC is a big exception as it's on the Cherokee reservation which is dry. But actually, it turns out coffee is better because you can play longer.
There are casino towns and cities across the country. There are also individual casinos in specific locations such as the one in Cherokee. Vegas deserves a tip of its own so I'll just talk about the smaller locations in this one. There are different kinds--ones with just machines, ones that still give out coins, ones with no penny slots at all, ones that involve cruises from the coast into international waters, ones that are on tribal land and even some that claim to be casinos but really, they are slots in a gas station. Bingo and lottery are considered gambling, but I'm not talking about those.
The ones that take cruises have sailing times--afternoon or evening. The rest are 24 hours.

Dress Code: It depends where you are and what you're doing. We're penny machine players (weak, maybe. But it lasts a long time and we often walk about with double or what we brought in) so we don't dress up. If you're a high roller, you might want to give the impression you are. Or maybe you want to be incognito. Vegas is flashier than most other places and if you're going to a show or out somewhere else, I'd dress up a bit. But in Tonopah, Nevada not that far away, it's much more relaxed. We prefer these

Muckleshoot in Washington. NOT our favorite

    Fado: Chain of Irish Pubs

    by Sunshine64 Written Apr 27, 2006

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Fado is a small chain of Irish pubs that started in Atlanta, GA. There are now 10 locations scattered throughouth the US. I've been to the pubs in Seattle, WA and Austin, TX. They're pretty good replicas of traditional Irish pubs, but, of course its been Americanized.

They do have a pub quiz night, live music - some of it's even Irish, and various other activities - many sports related.

Fado serves pub food, including fish and chips and boxtys. And they pour a 20 oz Guinness.

    Regal Cinemas: Regal Cinemas

Regal Cinema's is a nation wide theater chain, and plays new movies which have just come to the big screen. The theaters are usually really nice, like the one out in Short Pump which has reclining seats. The theaters are usually large and have anywhere from 15 to 30 screens and play a wide variety of new movies. The popcorn and drinks tend to be alittle expensive, unless you get a combo package, which usually includes 2 medium popcorns, a drink, and a free candy. This is really the best deal to go with. The tickets for the movie are also usually pretty expensive. They usually run about $8.50 a movie. Some of the theaters will give college kids a discount if you have a valid ID. Overall it is a good night life thing to do, especially if you have run out of cleaver things to do, or if there is just a really good movie out which you are dying to see.
