Oregon Inlet and surrounding waters abound with many species of fish, such as spot, croaker, flounder, grey and speckled trout, bluefish, puppydrum, mullet, cobia, sea bass and many others. Bring the entire family and enjoy a day of fishing on the Headboat "Miss Oregon Inlet", a sleek 65 footer. Powered by twin V-8-71 diesels, she is equipped with complete electronics including loran, fathometers, ship-to-shore and C.B. radios. When you fish aboard the "Miss Oregon Inlet" bait and tackel is provided along with an experienced captain and two mates to make your trip more enjoyable - everything you need to fish is provided.
If you prefer not to fish, a Twilight Cruise sails Thursday and Friday 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm.

Whatever your choice you are sure to enjoy yourself

Prices depend on time of day and age.

If you have a group of 6 people or so, you can Charter a deep sea fishing adventure. For about 1200, plus a 10-15% tip for the first mate, you can get on the boat with the professionals. You'll leave early in the morning, heading about 40 miles offshore to the gulfstream. The sky is the limit on what you might hook in to out there. A full day of fun awaits you.

If you have less than 6 people, you can always call about being added to another group who is a member or two short.

They provided everything except food and drinks.

Put on a ton of sunscreen, and remember that you can get burned even on the cloudiest of days.

Before you do any fishing in Avon, head directly to Frank and Fran's.

This is not your everyday bait and tackle shop. These guys really love what they do and are very willing to give you a piece of their extensive local knowledge of what is biting, where it's biting, and what it's biting on! Talk to Ginger, the reident Suft Casting machine. Pay close attention to what she has to say, because she is always on the fish when others aren't. Don't let her fool you when she says, "but what do I know, I have boobs."

If you don't already own fishing equipment, and are planning to stop at a big box retailer like Dick's Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops or any of the like, DON'T. This shop has what you need, whether you plan to just fish for the week, or if you, like me, plan to fish every free weekend you have. With competative prices and a full line of gear to fit any price range and skill level, these guys will set you up right.

For fishing the surf in Avon, there are so many different tackle combinations you can use, depending on what you're fishing for. LEt the folks at Frank and Fran's know what you are looking to catch and your experience level and they will set you up with the perfect combination to get the job done.

Stretching about 600 feet into the Atlantic Ocean, Avon Pier offers excellent fishing plus a pier house store selling fishing gear, bait and tackle, drinks, sandwiches, gifts and T-shirts. You can also rent fishing gear if you need it. All-day fishing passes or just sightseers. Ask about the October drum tournament and the August children's tournament. The Avon Pier closes in the winter months.

If you have a 4-wheel drive...

If you have a truck or SUV, there is no need to rent a boat, charter a trip, or even go on the prier.

Pull onto one of the many ramps on Avon's, Buxton's, or Frisco's beaches. The tackle shops have small brochures with driving tips and a map of the ramps that will make it easy to navigate the beach.

With many miles of beach at your fingertips, you should have no problem finding your own little section of beach to set up shop.

Remember to get there early, as you will be jockeying for position on the beach with other fishermen.

Also, remember NOT to be the last one off the beach, and bring a tow rope just in case you get stuck.

If you have never driven on the sand, see my other tips for regulations and safety information.

    What you will need:
Truck or SUV with 4-Wheel Drive (This doe not include a van, or Suburu that says it has all-wheel drive)
    Tire Gauge
    Tow Rope

    Happy 4-wheelin!
