    Avon Fishing Pier

There are several good fishing piers in the Outer Banks, fishing off the piers has been a local customer in these parts for a very very long time. So you can only imagine how many tackle, bait, tours, headboats go out of this area on any given day during the season. The relaxing thing to do is go to the pier and fish, now this can get pretty interesting too, depends if people have a few while trying to catch some thing off the pier. Some times the only thing you catch is a buzz, that's so bad is it? So grab your gear and head to the pier!

Ocracoke Island is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The entire island is owned by the US National Park Service, except for the village. The National Park Service also has a Visitors Center with Public Rest Rooms.Ocracoke Island, accessible only by water or air, is part of Hyde County. It is one of the barrier islands of the Outer Banks of North Carolina where the pirate Blackbeard is known to have once roamed. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore, with the Pamlico Sound on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, its 16 miles of sun-swept wilderness beaches offer something for everyone. Whether you'd like to swim, fish, surf, or just improve your tan, this is the place to visit. Camping facilities are available with two local campgrounds as well as the National Park Service. Dozens of boats are also available for charter fishing..
The quaint village of Ocracoke, on the island's southern soundside, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and includes the 1823 Ocracoke Lighthouse as well as several historic commercial building and over 100 homes. The British Cemetery, the Banker Ponies and dozens of unique shops provide the visitor with an interesting pastime.

On the eastern flyway of many migrating water and land birds, its environs are a birdwatcher's paradise. Hunting is permitted in season and guide service is available.

    Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

The tallest lighthouse in the nation and a famous symbol of North Carolina. You can - for a fee - walk to the top of the lighthouse. Within the park, just south of Avon, you may see tiny OBX deer. You can also stop and see the graves of two British soliders who died after their ships were torpedoed.

We and our friends, who came down to visit from their vacation in D.C., had a wonderful time playing in the surf. The waves knocked everyone down!
