Black Mountain Ale House: Good Ale House -Plenty of Beer & Food

by charlenemixa Written Sep 22, 2014

It was our last weekend in Black Mountain of our month away from the Florida heat. We spent this Sunday afternoon on the Farm Tours and were seeking some thirst quenching drinks. Stopping in at the Black Mountain Ale House, we found two open seats at the bar. My husband was pleased with his Ninja Porter and relaxed with a good glass of chardonnay. Sitting at the bar we watched the Sunday afternoon football games. We are not “Wing” people, but on our Pub and Grub Crawl tour in Black Mountain on Friday, we were thrilled with the wings we sample at the Ale House. They were meaty and not greasy. So dinner was a pound of wings for us to take back to our cabin. Delicious! Meaty wings with great dry rub and honey sriracha.

Favorite Dish: Their beers are great and so are the wings!

Fresh Wood Fired Pizza and Pasta: GREAT PIZZA - Wood Fired!

by charlenemixa Written Sep 22, 2014

My husband and I decided to go for lunch after having enjoyed their pizza samples on the Pub and Grub Crawl Tour in Black Mountain. Their wood fired pizza has a great crust. Our table allowed me to watch our pizza being made from tossing the dough to placing the ingredients on pizza to baking it in the wood fired oven. Our favorite pizza is the more traditional of pepperoni and mushroom on a cheese pizza. It was delicious! The crust is crispy and not too thick, and the ingredients are all so fresh. Be sure you find this hidden gem (off the beaten path in Black Mountain). The owner and Chef Mark is not only a master at pizza making but also in making wonderful clay pottery. He has several of his pottery on display in this small but enjoyable café.

Favorite Dish: Pizza and the sampling of olives

Todd's Sandwiches and Pub: Good Sandwiches, Salads, and Beer

by charlenemixa Written Sep 22, 2014

Seeking a new place for a light dinner on a Friday night, we saw an ad for Todd's Sandwich Shop and Pub. Reviews were good on this small shop/pub so we decided to give it a try. It is located off SR 70 West, just outside Black Mountain in strip shopping center. For a Friday night it was very quiet with only a few people in the bar area and outside on the patio. Known for great sandwiches, my husband enjoyed his sandwich and local brew while I opted for a salad and wine. The food was good and we chatted with the bartender while enjoying our dinners. It seems Todd's is well known to the locals. Passing by on Sunday- we saw the parking lot was full, so Todd must have some Sunday specials that draw a larger crowd. It was nice to be in a quiet pub for our dinner and not have a long line as we did the Friday before. Give it a try for a sandwich and brew.

The Veranda Cafe and Gifts: A Must Do Lunch Spot in Black Mountain

by charlenemixa Written Sep 7, 2014

The Veranda is known the Western North Carolina Mountains for a great place for lunch (it is only open for lunch). Located on Cherry St. in Black Mountain it has a welcoming downhome decor with wait staff wearing handmade aprons. Their menu is very eclectic for a variety of sandwiches, wraps, grilled sandwiches, salads, soups, and homemade desserts. I opted for the Cranberry Turkey with oven roasted turkey breast, Swiss cheese, mayo, lettuce, and cranberry chutney on cranberry nut bread. My husband had the daily special of shrimp and grits, which was filling and scrumptious. He kept bragging on how delicious his meal was. We highly recommend the Veranda for lunch when visiting Black Mountain.

Note: Only open 11:00 AM -3:00 PM on Monday through Saturday. If you go exactly at noon, be prepared to have a wait. They also have some unique gifts to check out. Decorative umbrellas were big hit with shoppers.

Dark City Deli: Great Deli with Outside Patio!

by charlenemixa Written Sep 7, 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch sitting outside on a patio under an umbrella in downtown Black Mountain. Having luscious grilled HOMEMADE pimento cheese sandwich with a brew was a great lunch. My husband gave their Reuben a try and it was huge and tasty. The staff was very nice in this casual eatery. Good place to stop while shopping in Black Mountain to sit outside and appreciate the uniqueness of the quaint town in the North Carolina “Black Mountains”.

    Que Sera Restaurant: great food

by browndwbtd Written Apr 21, 2008

Upscale but pretty casual - several seafood entries and specials - very well prepared high end dishes - somewhat of a southern twist ( cheese grits with the steak were amazing) - if you are looking for a quality dinner in Black Mnt we can recommend this white table cloth and candles place - not the least expensive but well worth the money and we plan to go back soon - we split a salad (way big enough to do that) had 2 dinners and split desert with glass of wine each for around $80 with tip - great meal - make reservations on weekends

Favorite Dish: so far only had 2 - fish was very fresh and cooked to perfection - steak was done perfect - cheese grits my girlfriend loved and she hates grits :)
