Favorite thing: The weather is usually pretty good in NC but when you are in doubt about what it will be like in Blowing Rock when you are about to visit then you can use the link below. It gives you live access to a webcam at the Appalachian Ski area.

Favorite thing: I think the best thing to do now is let the pictures speak for themselves. I will only add that I personally named this first picture "Elephant Mountain." It's not known as that... in fact, I'm not sure if this particular area has a name but it sure takes the look of an elephant so who knows? Maybe I've named a new place! Probably not. Do you see the elephant?

Favorite thing: I'm very fortunate for living less than an hour's drive away from the slow, leisurely drive afforded along this pristeen skyline. I'm very stupid that I don't take greater advantage of it! The Blue Ridge Parkway construction began in the 1930's as a means of providing employment for the many displaced workers during the Depression years and with the continuing recent work in past decade or so has been more or less completed. The last major part of construction was the building of the Linn Cove Viaduct viewed in the first picture.
If you're in the area, take an hour to drive a short way or a day to travel and enjoy... it's your choice and either way, you'll be glad you did!
Fondest memory: There is just a different sense to be discovered here in the mountains. There's a completely different and cleansing fragrance associated with the flora, the streams, the coolness and the sensation of being so close to nature! In the summer when it's in the 90's here, just an hour away it is 10 to 15 degrees cooler. In the winter there is snow there when no snow appears here. In the fall & spring... well, are there any better times for enjoying the mountains?
