The PANDORA'S MAILBOX was so attractive from the outside that I just had to take a peek at the inside. They carried unique pieces of jewellery from Holly Yashi and Ayala Bar. Also kites - flags - wind garden spinners. And cards of all desriptions. Enjoyed browsing!

A really cool area of Blowing Rock to shop is at the upscale SOUTH MARKE. You go down a little walkway off of the main street and you will come upon charming little shops all nestled along the walkway. Here you will find:

Flora Ottimer Children's Boutique
Gregory Alan's (pic #1 )

What to buy: Blowing Rock's most distinctive upscale shopping begins here. The Victorian-inspired nook is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and stone statuaries. You'll find specialty stores offering ladies, gentlemen and children's apparel, kitchen, china and serving accessories, garden supplies, painted furniture, Folk and American arts and crafts, a bookstore, sports merchandise, jewllery and more.

Several of the streets in "downtown" Blowing Rock are dotted with shops and retail stores (as well as restautants). Sunset Drive is one example.
At the street corner, you find placards like the one below, advertising the stores that you will find on that road.
Bliss's Bath and Body Boutique where you'll find soaps and bubbles to suit any bather.
DeWoolfsons importers of fine European wools and fabrics and down from local North Carolina suppliers.
The Art Gallery showing local and national talent and their works.
Village Pharmacy and Gift Shop where you can get just about anything that fits in your hand.
My wife can spend hours in little shops like this, just browsing from one to another.

Hankering for some pickled eggs? Need a bird house carved out od a branch? Craving deep fried boiled peanuts? Well, the Mountain Man has something for you and much much more. This was a cool store right on the side of the mountain with great views.
What to buy: anything and everything
What to pay: pirices are very reasonable.

Instead of a specific tip, this is a general one regarding the many shops and opportunities awaiting in this artsy little town. During the Spring and Summer, there is a monthly event called "Art in the Park" that typically brings many visitors to survey the many crafts and articles of fine art created by locals and regionally known artists.
The downtown shops tend to be small but interesting and range from the typical local fare to fine linens, antiques, collectables, and other items too numerous to mention here. It is really a neat place to wander around and enjoy the beauty of Blowing Rock as many do!
