acemj Says: Sure, this is a coastal area, but there's more to do than just hang out at the beach. Check our some of Wilmington's architectural gems as well as the area museums and historic districts.
acemj Says: Unless you're a big fan of history, I'd skip Brunswick Town. The historic town and fort were burned down by the British and what's left isn't all that impressive.

acemj Says: Well, this page encompasses the entire Cape Fear Coast, so nothing is really off the beaten path, unless you decide to venture down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (less than 2 hours by car), Charlotte, NC (about 3 1/2 hours), Raleigh, NC (2 hours).
