Sure there are plenty of places to stay in the area, from beach houses to your mainstays such as Motel 6, the Holiday Inn and others. But if you really want to get in the spirit of this area, you should stay in one of the many historic bed and breakfasts in Wilmington.

There are plenty of bars and clubs in the Cape Fear Area. Your best bets are College Road around the campus of UNCW, Downtown Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach.
I hung out at Front Street Brewery in Wilmington and enjoyed sampling some of their handcrafted brews.

Unless you're a big fan of history, I'd skip Brunswick Town. The historic town and fort were burned down by the British and what's left isn't all that impressive.

Favorite thing: Wilmington is easily my favorite spot in the Cape Fear coastal region. It's a picturesque location along the banks of the Cape Fear River and is conveniently located only about 20 minutes from Wrightville Beach. You'll find charming streets lined with historic homes as well as impressive churches and a great artistic community.
