    The Lantern: Asian Fusion

by TimDaoust Written May 29, 2005

The food here was great, service okay, atmosphere...nice in the bar but in the actual restaurant dining area, it's kind of uncomfortable. The tables are too close together, not much separation, your partner is sitting too far away and they hardly play music, so you just hear everyone else's chatter. Other than that the food was good, and unique. A brand of Asian inspired cuisine that is sometimes hit or miss.

Favorite Dish: I don't remember what we had, except that it was good.

    411 restaurant

Four Eleven is a great way to celebrate a special occasion, or a great vacation! Wonderful wine selection, excellent piping hot gourmet meals.

Favorite Dish: Though they specialize in Italian, I'm a big fan of their beef tenderloin entrees. Superb!

  • Mama Dip's: Southern Heaven from Grandma's Kitchen

by Lildeer Written Mar 9, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Mama Dip was featured on Good Morning America, her cookbook sells worldwide, and her local restaurant is not to be missed. Sample delicious Southern traditions including fried okra, chitlins, and chicken pastry. Also a great selection of vegetables and BBQ.

Favorite Dish: Try the Chicken Pastry, but save room for Strawberry shortcake dessert.

    Spanky's: Campus Mainstay

by TimDaoust Written Feb 26, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Well, this is one of many campus mainstays. It's typical american bar and grill type stuff but it has a great atmosphere. They've also got a bar and a private party room upstairs, I hear, that can be rented out. Try it if you're in the area and want something quick. Great service.

Cafe Driade: Quaint Cafe on the edge of a wood

    Inside Cafe Driade

This place is really neat. It's your typical java joint at first glance but they do brew counter culture coffee which is shade grown coffee. The benefit of that is that the coffee bushes don't grow too close together and crowd each other thus yielding a superior crop. Also, it provieds a haven for songbirds. And it's all organic as well so if you want a guilt free cup of coffee your best bet is anywhere that serves counter culture coffee or any such coffee that adheres to the same principles. Anyway, enough about the coffee, they have plenty of tea, cigars, beer and wine to choose from as well as pastries. The atmosphere here is also neat. It has plenty of outdoor seating as well as some neat artwork on the interior and exterior. A path behind the cafe goes to the Bolin Creek Trail.

    Favorite Dish: Coffeeeeee!
