by acemj If you want to hear some good live music while in town, check The Visulite's website for what's going on when you're in town. They have a wide range of music on display practically every night of the week. It's a fairly cozy venue and the size is just right for really seeing and really hearing an artist perform. by acemj Cutter's is the kind of place that you might imagine a bunch of overfed powerbrokers going to in order to discuss world domination or the latest bank merger. Wood panelled walls, rich leather sofas, an elegant pool table and stately art give this place a warm and powerful feel. It's not exactly my kind of place, but if you're into cigars, you'll be in heaven. As a matter of fact, I didn't realize how sexy it is to see a woman smoke a cigar until I came here . . . I was here with a banking friend of mine who knows a lot more than I do about cigars. He smoked a $24 La Gloria Cubana and I had an $18 C.A.O. brand. Mine was more mellow than his heavy, full bodied stogie, but I'm no expert on cigars. In fact, this was the first time I've ever actually finished one on my own. Not bad, but I wouldn't do it too often.
Most people will be coming from work, so business casual is acceptable. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: 100 W. Trade St.Phone: 704-358-6556Directions: In the Marriott City Center in Uptown.

The Liquid Lounge isn't too big, and they have a few bars and a dance floor... but mostly they have good djs. I've never been here when it was too crowded.

funky nightlife by b1bob This isn't the kind of place either Mark or I would frequent for night life. It is mainly intended for the younger crowd (those just old enough to legally drink alcohol). Mark says this is more a place for folks to, in diplomatic terms, make plans for what to do when they leave there. Leave a Comment Theme: NightclubAddress: 314 N. College Street, Charlotte, NC 28202

by acemj Sir Ed's is a neighborhood pub (British fare). I listed it in my restaurant section as well because the food is great, but it's also a great place to come and just have a drink or two. If you're looking for a good hangout and not the college kids party traps, then check this place out. They usually have about 8 beers on tap.

by acemj The South Park Pavilion is a great entertainment venue and every Sunday night during the summer months it hosts 'The Pops at South Park,' a great music series which features classical music and a relaxed family atmosphere. You'll have to get here early to claim a spot in the grass because it's always crowded (and best of all, it's free). The Pavilion was damaged in February of 2004 when Charlotte had an unexpected snowstorm which dumped about 15 inches of wet heavy white stuff on the roof causing it to break. However, it will be repaired and ready for summertime fun. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by acemj Blumenthal Performing Arts Center/Belk Theater. If you're interested in the arts, get tickets to a show and grab a bite to eat at one of the many elegant Uptown restaurants. Recently, such Broadway staples as Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables have passed through town. You can also see the Charlotte Symphony here.

by acemj Locate in the laid-back, but hip NoDa (North Davidson) neighborhood, Fat City is a cool place to come and enjoy a cheap meal, cold drinks and good entertainment. At night, they have all kinds of eclectic bands, from rock, punk, reggae and even jazz. Very unpretentious and welcoming. They also have good good, especially vegetarian specialties and the prices are right (usually between $4-$8 for meals.

by acemj The Double Door is the place to go for good blues in Charlotte. Some great acts, including Eric Clapton, have performed at this little dive, but you're more likely to find some local talent and an unpretentious, relaxed (though sometimes loud) atmosphere. It's been around since 1973.

by acemj Palomino is a great place to be seen if you're the type who cares about that sort of thing. Recently, I was involved in a function up there hosted by a new social and civic organization called the Young Professional Society. The atmosphere is very chic and the clientele are mostly Uptown bankers and the like. They have good martinis and daily drink specials at the bar, but this place is also a full service restaurant, although I've never had anything but the appetizers (the brick oven bruschetta is good). The website has the full menu and much more.
