There are two Cajun Queens, but stick with the original on 7th Street. As you can see by the picture, it's located in what used to be a large home, which gives it a cozy feel. If you want a romantic dinner, eat downstairs, preferably by one of the fireplaces. There is a bar upstairs and a large eating area featuring the 7th Street Gator Band, a group of Dixieland characters who are all in their sixties or seventies. They have a loud brass sound and they're open to taking requests.
Crawfish Etoufee. The steaks are also great. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherPrice: US$21-30 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 1800 E. 7th Street, near PecanDirections: Elizabeth NeighborhoodWebsite: www.cajunqueen.net

One of the best dining experiences in Charlotte. The atmosphere is very masculine with oak paneling and an elegant bar. The service is top-notch and the quality of the steaks is exceptional. The Capital Grille is part of the exclusive national chain based out of Washington, D.C.

Since Indian food is among my favorites, I've searched out all of the local Indian eateries and none is too exceptional. However, Woodlands is the best of the bunch. The restaurant specializes in South Indian fare and does it fairly well. The menu is completely vegetarian. Be warned, however, Indian food can be fairly spicy!
Masala Dosia (like a big Indian pancake with a spiced sauce), iddly (cream of wheat is steamed I think? and dipped in either a spiced sambaar or a minty coconut chutney), chana masala. They even have one North Indian specialty, Aloo Gobi. The Pewter Rose is very colorful and funky. The food is good, and the service is also good. This is a nice place for a romantic dinner. The menu changes twice a year, and there is a bar to the side, and a club upstairs. They can definitely handle large parties here. We had a party of about 50 once, and they did a great job with it! Try the Penguin. It's a true grease pit hole in the wall. But where else can you have wine with your corndog? Its got tons of charm plus it's cheap. You'll find all sorts in there from the artsy eclectic, to business professionals, to those who have more piercing than I can count. Its just a great laid back environment. This is a wonderful resturant, although kinda expensive. The food is wonderful and in large portions. It has fabulous desserts. It is part of a small chain (there's one in Greensboro that I know of as well). When I speak of the Pork chops you get a rack of them. Wonderful!

The pizza here is California style. I've only been to the location at University, but there are a few more in the Charlotte area. The University area location is on the water, and it's a really, really nice view. The pizza isn't bad, just different.... and I know people who absolutely LOVE it. You can get all sorts of weird toppings. I'm just used to a little more east coast style pizza :-) Leave a Comment Theme: PizzaPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Hwy. 29 and Harris Blvd, off of J.W. Center city Charlotte is exploding with new restaurants and, as seems to be typical with restaurants, almost as many close as open. The bad part of this is that many which do not make it are pretty good. This new offering is a bit out of the way and I do not think that you will come upon it by accident. Although it has a Tryon Street address, it is actually between Tryon and College streets and faces an open greenspace. The lighting is rather low and there is a lot of leather and dark wood so it could be a very romantic setting but the night that I was there, there was only one other party present and he was trying so loudly to impress his guests that he was an outstanding investment manager that he really detracted from my meal. Unfortunately (for me), I arrived only half an hour brfore closing and some of the staff seemed to be ready to leave then. Having spent 17 years in the hospitality industry, one of my pet peeves is restaurants and shops which want to close before their posted hours. As you may guess from my comments on the food, it was much better than the service, and my overall rating is diminished by the attitude of the wait staff and the fact that they seated me only one table from the loudmouth although we were the only customers in the place.
I cannot call it a favorite dish because it is the only one that I have had there but the house special the night I visited was Beef Tournedos and they were excellent. They were cooked to perfection and seasoned equally well. Of course, they would have won my approval anyway because they were served with asparagus spears and presented on a bed of scrumptious potatoes. The potatoes were roasted and then partially mashed and seasoned beautifully as well. This place was a little bit upscale... might want to leave the jeans at home. Nice food, with lots of Frank Sinatra...

With two Marriotts and a Hilton plus a Jaguar dealership, you might expect that all of your dining options are going to be very expensive, and you would generally be correct. There is a McDonald's and a Sonny's Barbecue but there are also several very expensive restaurants. I was very pleased to see the opening last year of a little place owned by a Korean couple that offers breakfast and lunch at significantly less expense than the hotels and yet more tasty (and much more friendly) than McDonald's. They are open Monday-Friday from 7 AM to 3:30 PM serving breakfast and lunch. They also cater off-site and perhaps most surprising for such a limited operation, they have a salad bar with good variety and excellent freshness.
Since they are so far away from me, I do not get there nearly as often as I would like but each time that I do I am increasingly impressed. The smoked turkey club is especially tasty and totally made to order. The salad bar is also a delight. The last time I was by there, I was early for a meeting nearby and it was after their posted closing time but I drove by just to confirm that they were still in business. The owner was sitting out front waiting for his wife to return from a catering run so I just stopped to chat. Although they had been closed for over an hour, he made a delicious barbecue plate for me.
