Carowinds is on the North Carolina/South Carolina border. You can literally walk around in the theme park and cross back and forth between the two states. There is a wide variety of roller coasters, a kid park, and a water park.

I'm in this picture somewhere. scary huh? :-)

Carowinds is an amusement park right on the North and South Carolina border. In fact, the park is bisected by the line. The last time I went was August, 1973. Their slogan back then was Get a week's worth of fun in a day at Carowinds. I'm sure the park has changed a lot since then. Rides impressive at that time have surely given way to more impressive rides today. Check out the website (linked below) to see how it looks today.

I have been here about 3 times in my life. My family reunion was held here once. It is the best amusement park that North and South Carolina has to offer. It sits on the borders of both states. To me it is like all the rest of the amusement parks out here but it is still fun.

  • DON'T RENT A CABANA at the Waterpark

    by FunMom711 Written Jun 18, 2012

Boomerang Bay at Carowinds is a really cool water park, with something for 'kids' of all ages and heights, including splash parks/play areas from zero-depth and wading-pool-depth for smaller kids to tube rides ranging from lazy-river-type floats through all levels of water slides and wave pools for all sizes. Everyone can find something to do here! One word of caution: DON'T RENT A CABANA. Located on the very back side of Bondi Beach, they are as far away from any other waterpark attraction as they could possibly be, making them incredibly inconvenient to anything else. So unless you have only teen-aged or older guests AND plan to remain ONLY at a single waterpark attraction (Bondi Beach) for the entire day, they are completely worthless.

The theme park portion of Carowinds also has a variety of rides and shows that appeal to 'kids' of all ages, sizes and thrill-tolerances.

Also, very expensive once inside. So, eat offsite before you come and take advantage of the free fountain water (cups provided by the park) throughout the park. And, of course, don't waste your $$ on the Cabanas...they're a HUGE disappointment and, in fact, completely unusable for most.

    Don't miss This Park!

by ArizonaExpert Written Jun 26, 2007

I took the clan to Carowinds and we had a great time! We opened the park at 10am and left at closing time...8PM. There was so much to do for the little ones, and having the water park within the park is amazing. On a hot summer day, you just get wet and let nature dry you off.

We went on a Thursday and there were hardly any lines to any rides. The kids went to the Nickelodeon section and rode the rides over and over. The water was great and I loved the roller coasters for the adults.

Food is of course expensive and water was $3.75 a bottle, so bring your own in!!!! They let you bring your own food and water.

The shows were fine, but the parade was a little short (5 minutes). At least there weren't any crowds to fight. The kids got pics with all the characters, so it was great.

  • Customer Service Nightmare

by ellencking Updated Jul 9, 2007

A recent planned trip to Carowinds was ruined by the extremely poor customer service in the park. The park was dirty, poorly managed and the employees in the concession areas were extremely dumb. At one concession booth, they not only gave me incorrect change but they also incorrectly charged me and tried to talk me out of ordering food that wasn't already prepared. I watched employees throughout the day socialize with one another and ignore trash on the ground, overflowing trash cans and visitors trying to get assistance. Please do not waste your money on this park. The rides are nothing spectacular . . . you would have a much better time at the Asheboro Zoo.

Although this park is clean and the rides are ok, I will never go back. I have been to several theme parks, but I have never been to one as crowded, or as expensive. The entry price isn't bad, but the price of EVERYTHING inside is outrageous! Worse than Disney World, worse than Cedar Point. $3.50 for a bottle of water, cost $62.00 for 4 of us to eat hot dogs (and they were the worst hot dogs I've ever had), fries and a drink. I rode a grand total of 2 rides the entire day, and you couldn't even get to Boomerang Bay, it was wall to wall people. We had a better time at the hotel, swimming in the pool. I love amusement parks, go to at least one every summer, (this was #2 this year), but this was the first and last time I will go to this one.

Kids will love Celebration Station where they can play miniature golf, ride Go-Karts, bumper boats, hit balls in the batting cages and play games of all kinds in the arcades.

Carowinds is a large amusement park full of all the standard roller coasters, rides and games. It's south of Charlotte, only about 15 minutes from Uptown.
