Fourth Ward house with wrought iron fence

Charlotte's residential districts are divided into wards. The fourth ward, particularly on Ninth Street, has some of the best architecture and sets a good contrast of old versus new. Mark believes the green house pictured here is the more architecturally impressive in the fourth ward because of the wrought iron fence like that one might find in the French Quarter of New Orleans. He has a point on that, and I was impressed by the glass within glass encasement on the second floor.

As impressive as that green house was, the yellow house pictured here is more impressive, in my opinion. (That's worth its weight in Confederate money because I believe Shemp was the superiour third "stooge" and Roger Moore was the best portrayer of James Bond.) I say that given the contrasts in colour between the goldenrod yellow and brick red, the mini porch on the second floor, and the brick red knobs atop white banisters. Which is better? We report, you decide.

Take a walking tour through the Historic Fourth Ward District in Uptown. You can go to the tourist information office at the 300 block of South Tryon and get a map that includes a self-guided tour or you can simply walk and enjoy it on your own.

Had a GREAT day today! Went to Discovery Place to check out the Body World exhibit, then watched an IMAX movie there. Walked a block down the street to have some microbrewed beer and a quick lunch at Rock Bottom Brewery, then took a nice horse-drawn carriage ride through the Historic Fouth Ward. The carriage rides started right outside Discovery Place. Learned about where Shallow Hal was filmed, and saw some great homes from the 1800's! What a great Saturday!
