Kitty Hawk Water Sports

I haven't done any of these things - even if it had been warm enough, I probably would not have done anything more strenuous than a paddle boat ride, although I'd like to do parasailing someday.

But these people appear to have it all for water sports.. They have a store in Duck, but the main stores appear to be in Kitty Hawk (which is probably the one pictured) and Corolla.

They have new and used kayaks, and they do kayak Ecotours. They have surfboards and do surfing instruction. They do parasailing and wind surfing. They rent wave runners, pontoon boats, sailboats, kayaks, and bumper boats.

Equipment: Wave Runners (all 3-seaters)
1/2hr. $65 1 hr. $85 (Nags Head location)

Basking by the indoor pool
4 more images

One of the reasons that I thought this place would be good is that they have a heated indoor pool.

At this time of year, it would be too cold to swim from the beach, and most of the time we were in Duck, there would also have been too much surf. (see photos 4 and 5) I never did use this pool either.

Barrier Island Station indoor pool

There is also a heated indoor pool for days when it's raining outside or for guests who visit in the offseason. I made use of the indoor pool the day after I got a bad sunburn where I could enjoy some water without being further exposed to the sun.

Come on in, the water's fine!

Barrier Island Station offers an outdoor pool particularly for guests who visit in high summer. The pool starts out at about 3 feet (1 m.) deep and gradually descends to 10 feet (3 m.)
