Its a TRAP!!!
I've lived here for six years and you must be vigilant not to become another statistic. Technically no one really lives in Fayetteville, they live in the outskirts of the city, Raeford, Hope Mills, Spring Lake, or Sanford. Fay has all the bad parts of a urban city and hardly anything good, be careful going out late by yourself this is when it gets ugly, larcenies, robberies, muggings and so forth. DONT EVER STOP TO HELP ANYONE!! This is usually a trap that gets good Samaritans all the time, usually it will be a woman that's waving you down in distress screaming someone is trying to kill, attack her. Once you get out of the car to comfort her BAM a gun either slaps you in the back of the head or its give me your money, then they take your car. We just had someone hijack a few days ago then the victim drove the robbers to a nearby gas station so they could rob it, he took off running but they shot him down and killed him. They were all captured and prosecuted but don't rely on police around here to protect you, these clowns don't care about doing life in prison which makes it so much more dangerous. We had a very dangerous serial rapist a few years ago, he got 120 years is prison but guess what? I doubt he cared. Another big story is a missing young woman from the Ft Bragg area that no one has been able to find yet, most likely killed by a registered sex offender. Stealing motorcycles and other odd things like your ac unit is big business around here, you'll see so many of them in lock cages behind businesses and homes. Any good area in the city won't be more than two blocks away from a ghetto that will prowl your streets for stuff to steal. Here is your guide:
* If you make big purchase like HDTVs and sort do not put the boxes outside for the trash pickup, burn the ps4 or other expensive box, don't advertise what you got. Move in/out late at night or early morning.
* Make sure you have renters insurance to cover everything in your house and some, same with homeowners.
*Driving after 11PM or before 0430AM is dangerous lots of drunks and unscrupulous police.
* LOCK YOUR DOORS ALWAYS!! this includes all windows and car doors, don't ever open your windows no matter how hot you are.
*Invest in a security alarm and at least a shotgun, remember these brave fools don't care about life in prison so sometimes it's good to have that extra security so they can send them to their maker.
Be Extremely Careful in Fayetteville!
Unfortunately I had to spend over a year in this town. While I won't go into my experience down here, I can say a person visiting must be very careful and aware, the crime rate is high and scary. There are many thefts, and while I was living here a rapist on the loose for many months. I left a movie theatre one evening and was followed by some very disturbing looking men until I drove to the police station. If you are in a hotel - do not leave your valuables in the room. If you are parked in one of the malls, be very vigilant about having your car keys in your hand and be aware of your surroundings. I know there is crime all over the country in any town or city, however this town has more than it's share. Also, I've noticed this is a heavy "drinking town" so try to be aware when you are on the road for erratic drivers who may be under the influence of alcohol and speeders - get out of their way. There are some very nice people of course, and I am not trying to be hateful, just honest. A person needs to be on guard.
Make sure you never leave any...
Make sure you never leave any valuables in your car or hotel room. Too many thieves. Drug addicts, etc. So lock your money and stuff up in a safe place like a bank vault or safety deposit box if ya don't wanna lose it. Be careful where ya go to, they don't hesitate to pull a knife or gun on ya and steal your car and everything else ya got if you're in the wrong neighborhood. Make sure you're in with the majority of your own color. Sounds cold but true from when I was there.
