PARENTS PLEASE!!!! Do not allow your children to visit the waterfall park in Rodanthe without adult supervision. We have a registered sexual offender that is now working and living at the waterpark. New state law will not take effect until Dec. 9 2007, (Jessica Lunsford Act ), which will prohibit registered sexual offenders from working anywhere that children are known to gather. Please check the Dept of Justice's web page, there is a link for sexual predators. Here you can varify the information I have given you. Select North Carolina, then zipcode 27968(Rodanthe). There you will see the picture of Michael Newnam aka Michael Newman. The address given is that of the Waterfall Park. I have personally verified that he is working there, and I see him on site. I will be placing pamplets, and parent"s tip sheets, which the Center for Missing and Exploited Children has so kindly donated, in various business' around the park. As residents of Hatteras Island, we all want your children to return home from their summer vacation at the beach, with nothing but happy and cherished memories. Please help us make this possible, by making sure either parents or a responsible adult, accompany your children( all ages), while visiting this park. Wishing us all, a safe and happy Summer.

Unique Suggestions: Please keep as close an eye on your children here, as you do at home. Report anything suspicious to Dare County Sheriff Department, by immediately dialing 911. You do not have to wait for a crime to be committed, before you call 911. Our guys are the best, and they are here to help you and your families stay safe.

Fun Alternatives: There are various waterparks in Nags Head, but it is approximately 27 miles away. Just remember, no distance is to great, when it involves the safety of your child.

    Why would you do this?

I don't understand why someone would go down to a place that's known for their seafood and other great local restaurants and eat at a chain? I don' t care if you want Mexican food, there's local places to go. But why would someone go to Outback Steakhouse or to McDonalds or other national chains found in their hometowns?
If it's money people are worried about, there are great places that are cheap--it's just a matter of trying stuff.

Fun Alternatives: There's no reason to go, so I'm not going to offer a way to make it a good experience. INSTEAD, if you want a good cheap breakfast, go to the Ship's Wheel or Stack Em High (is this a chain? We don't have it around here, so I could be contradicting myself) and there are a million places to go for lunch and dinner...
I understand if you live here and want that stuff sometimes, otherwise, I can't think of anything that says "Vacation on the Outer Banks" less than McDonalds and other fast food joints.

Waterfall Park Is Not a Cascade of Fun

    The excitement of Waterfall Park

If you are coming from the North, as soon as you get into North Carolina from Virginia, you'll see signs advertising Waterfall Park. It looks like it's so much fun if you haven't been there before. Waterslides, racecars, dune buggies, even bungee...it seems like it would be a nice getaway for kids. It's really not all that fun, I promise. There are like 2 slides, the bungee jump looks to be a little unsafe, seeing how you plunge down into concrete...hopefully the cords will always hold up. The dune buggies go around a little track as do the cars. And think about it, if you saw these signs, so did every single family and kid that has traveled down that road. Therefore, it's crowded and it's hot and you can hear the ocean right beside the park. Wouldn't you rather be on the beach? That's free and Waterfall Park most certainly is not.

Unique Suggestions: Go earlier in the morning or in the evening. I don't even know when the hours are, but there should be less people there then.

Fun Alternatives: Hang out down in the Salvo/Rodanthe/Waves area. There's some stuff to do down there, some good places to eat and beaches that are less crowded than up in Nags Head and Kitty Hawk.
