    Guayabitos: Mexican in Maggie Valley

by jmpncsu Written Nov 8, 2012

Guayabitos is a Mexican restaurant in Maggie Valley, conveniently located on Soco Road. It's really the only option if you're looking for Mexican in Maggie Valley. The food is pretty good, the normal Mexican selection of food and drinks. And the prices are about average for Mexican food. The service was so-so - the waitress was slow to get our orders and brings drinks. And she brought out our food staggered so some people were almost finished by the time I got my meal. But at least there's chips and salsa to munch on while waiting.

Favorite Dish: Fajitas, but that's about the only thing I ever get at Mexican restaurants.

  • The Nutmeg Cafe: Terrible!

by Truefoodcrittic Written Jul 4, 2012

If you want a good meal I wold stay away from the nutmeg bakery.

The "Authentic NY style" bagels look like puffed up muffins.... they are not boiled before they are baked.

The baked goods are not much better than what you would get at a grocery store bakery.

They have 6 different types of coffee, all of which are terrible.

    The service is painfully slow.

And the Owners are extremly rude

Favorite Dish: water-they cant mess that up

What a find! The owners and staff are a veritable wealth of experience and talent.

Located in a slice of time gone by NC, this Bakery and Café has a seriously talented staff.

Dad Gary has been in the baking business for over 40 years. His specialty is authentic bagels from traditional recipes.

Mom Beth is an experienced baker and caterer bringing her own treasured recipes to the talent mix.

Son Russ is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and offers gourmet breads worthy of the finest bakeries in Europe.

Carrie is the cheesecake fairy waving her magic wand over ethereal lemon, mixed berry and other flavors of the sort that when you first take a bite you are on cheesecake cloud nine. She also bakes artistic special order cakes.

If this isn’t enough, there is Cecelia, the brownie and cookie princess baking up treats to satisfy everyone’s taste and craving with artful creations. Oh, and donuts!

Their chicken salad on a fresh baked everything bagel is everything you could wish for in the perfect lunch. Fresh rosemary, grapes, and almonds make a delectable combination. Breakfast offers stuffed French toast. Homemade bread, of course.

All this and fresh, local ingredients with a farm to table philosophy, that will surely propel Nutmeg Bakery and Café into a must visit destination for travelers to Western North Carolina!

Favorite Dish: Everything Bagel with Rosemary Chicken Salad

Any of the wonderful baked goodies!

    Hurleys: Great Trout!

    by jemcat01 Updated Jan 24, 2011

The ambience was really nice with candlelight. It has the appearance of an expensive restaurant but in fact it was quite reasonable. A very friendly place with creekside dining and Rhum Bar. Karaoke and live bands on the weekends.

Favorite Dish: The fried trout was wonderful. It's a fish that is raised nearby and has a pinkish flakey meat. The hushpuppies and salad was great too.

    Legends: Great Burgers!

    by jemcat01 Updated Jan 24, 2011

It's a really cool sports bar that serves everything from hot dogs to rib eyes. They also allow you to wear your ski gear inside so it's a great place to go for lunch after a day on the slopes.

Favorite Dish: We split the hamburger because they were huge with a couple cups of hot coffee to warm the body.

Maggie Valley Restaurant: Good Country Fixins'

We stayed the night in Maggie Valley, and started the day with a fantastic country breakfast. If I remember correctly, I had the biscuits and gravy, which is very difficult to find up here north of the Mason-Dixon Line.

When I was there, they had a new waitress. It was her second day. After seating us and disappearing, she came running back with menues, apologizing for not having remembered. For every little mistake she did, apologized. It was not irritating at all, rather it was down right cute. And she looked like a young version of Demi Moore, too. I guess she didn't expect a 200% tip. ;)

The best place to get BBQ in...

by Venturingnow Written Oct 4, 2002

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The best place to get BBQ in Western North Carolina in my opinion is on the way to the ski resort. The place is called 'Butts on the Creek' and you'll find it by located the sign on the road with three pigs sitting naked on a creek.
Sitting over the river as it flows underneath the building.

Favorite Dish: Pulled BBQ pork sandwiches
