Weeping Radish Brewery and Restaurant: RIP - Great Beer and German Food at Weeping Radish

by MatthewMetcalfe Updated May 12, 2009

    2 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Just received word that the Weeping Radish closed in 2007. A great German Restaurant and Bar is gone!

Weeping Radish was a local Brewery and German Restaurant in Manteo. They offered a good blend of German and American food along with a fantastic selection of their own beers.

The restaurant looked like it was lifted from Bavaria and placed in North Carolina.

Favorite Dish: I had a blend of German Meats when I was there to snack on with my Beer. The best thing about the Beer is that you can take it with you! Buy a mini Keg or a Liter Bottle and take it home as a souvenir!

The beer is out of sight. The food is just as good. Wow.

Favorite Dish: Everything that I have tried on vacation here is good. Not only that, I just learned you can purchase custom beer and customer beer labels shipped to your door! I ordered some for my brothers wedding.

Big Al's: Big Al's... A Trip into the Past!

    by NC_Ziggy Updated Jul 2, 2005

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Ok, if you've ever dreamed of being in the Happy Days restaurant and haven't been able to find it, I think I may have just found a fix for you! Big Al's has been around for a long time and the feel of the past is not forced or reproduced, but is the "real thing".

The menu is a combination of old favorites like hamburgers, cheeseburgers, good ole BBQ, and foot long dogs! Also available as one might expect near the ocean are various seafood selections. The real feeling of the past is captured in Big Al's floats, malts, and shakes! By the way, I'm not sure if you can tell by the pics but Big Al's is a Coke place... I wouldn't suggest asking for a Pepsi here!

There is also a small but well-stocked gift shop that you surprisingly must go through to pay your check... hmm... That Big Al is some marketing man! :-)

    Hurricane Mo's: Hurricane Mo's! - Great Seafood

by MatthewMetcalfe Written Mar 26, 2005

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Hurricane Mo's is located just off the bridge from Nag's Head to Manteo. Located next to a Marina, Hurricane Mo's offers standard American and seafood. Although it can get crowded, it's a pretty large restaurant.

Favorite Dish: Seafood fresh from the sound should be your first option. It's local and Fresh.

I had two choices for lunch. This was one of them, and it was a winner. Cheap and tasty food prepared fresh with efficient waitstaff.

    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
    Wheelchair access.
    Credit Cards Accepted: VISA, MasterCard.

Favorite Dish: Bob had a tuna salad sandwich and fries for $3.89, and I had an iced tea (99 cents), and a large BBQ sandwich with cole slaw on the side, and potato salad for $3.99.

A fried chicken dinner - two pieces and two sides and a roll would be only $7.99

The Waterfront Trellis: Upscale in Downtown

by grandmaR Updated Mar 22, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We saw this restaurant in downtown Manteo, but in the end, because the place looked really expensive, we ate somewhere else. It is in the building pictured, above the ground floor on the right.

Favorite Dish: The general restaurant webpage says: "Serving lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch overlooking sparkling Shallowbag Bay in Manteo, The Waterfront Trellis also creates the perfect setting for a wedding reception, bridal brunch or rehearsal dinner. On and off-premises catering and full event planning are our specialties."

The website listed below is under construction, and I can't get any information from it.

China King Part II: Where is Part I?

by grandmaR Written Mar 22, 2005

This restaurant was along the main road on Roanoke Island, but we did not stop here to eat. The sign advises that there is additional parking behind the restaurant. There is another China King in Kill Devil Hills in The Dare Centre
    US 158, MP 7

Favorite Dish: According to the sign they have local shrimp. There is also a buffet for lunch and dinner. I assume that they also have take-out.
